Extended Range Bass (Club??) Thread

Thanks. It was just something I wanted to get because I was looking for a reasonable 6er to branch out onto and I found a few youtube videos of it and it sounded good. Then I went to the local guitar shop, and by rare luck, they had one in! So after having a quick whirl on the thing I decided that I MUST buy it, and I did. :bassist:

I did like the High C string but all that ended up doing was giving me a taste for the higher range so eventually I got round to switching it from BEADGC to EADGCF/BE. Sounds great and pretty much covers anything I'd want to do in a heartbeat, like going from playing a bass line to busting out a shred. Fun stuff. I'd still check it out, relatively cheap. An absolute steal at £500.

Nice! I also went for the higher range with my 9. :bassist:

Okay, to settle some confusion, the first ERB that I handled (this Summer) had groups of strings in twos with a large spacing between each pair.

Is this unusual for ERB?

If the bass was an octave 4 string (four groups of two strings), then it wouldn't (technically) be considered an ERB. Typically, an ERB with 8 strings is eight individually tuned strings, i.e., B-E-A-D-G-C-F-Bb, as compared to an 8 string octave bass tuned Ee-Aa-Dd-Gg.

Some octave course basses are 10 strings (Bb-Ee-Aa-Dd-Gg) as well as some twelve strings tune Eee-Aaa-Ddd-Ggg. ERB's are generally single course (non-octave) ....

As of today, I'm the proud owner of a new Warwick Thumb BO 6! :hyper:

I would like an ERB club# please.

Wow!!! Some beautiful basses count me in on this club. I own a 6 string Zon and a 7 string Conklin Bill Dickens signiture model and I have been looking for a 6 string headless due to back problems. Something along the lines of graphite neck or full on graphite, needs to be light. Any suggestions would be great.

Can I have a number? Here's my 2004 Ibanez BTB406QM:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Was after a new 4 string, tried that one out in the store and loved it so much I got it! I'm finding myself using the C a lot more than the B, which I didn't think I would. I'm having a ton of fun expanding normal lines into a lot of playing around with adding 9ths, 11ths etc. and making chords.

"Because of the unique moulding methods developed by Status Graphite, the instrument is surprisingly light and is naturally well balanced.
The entire bass is a one-piece, graphite composite moulding which ensures stability, clarity and sustain."

basssuperfreak - #101 & Distant Cousin - #102 Welcome ...

RLK - Loving that LeCompte, gorgeous bass!

basssuperfreak - Having recently had my own serous issues with back problems I can appreciate your situation. Fortunately for me, physical therapy has really helped, far better than I ever thought it would. Good luck with the search :)

Distant - You'd be surprised how many guys feel that same way at first about the C string .... it's a lot more valuable than many people give it credit for! Time to move to a 7, you'll love the F :D

Does anyone make a fan-fretted, headless, 5-string multi-scale (35-32"?), tuned EADGC, with a detuner on the E-string?

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a headless bass that had a detuner at the bridge. That would be interesting for sure.
