It would be very handy. I remember how difficult it was to size up a headstock for the Elrick I had made with four detuners- Rob had to redo the headstock after first making it, and even in the end a couple could collide with certain tunings. I'd be all for ordering a headless bass if bridge detuners like that existed.

Very nice. Did Conklin make the pickup covers? Back when I ordered mine, they didn't do this, which was odd considering how they basically do everything else.

That would be pretty handy. Not sure how it would be possible on those individual bridge/tuners on the market. It would be cool if someone would do the Kubicki thing again and simply extend the scale length on that string.

Tapy Tap, Thanks for the lead. I was just checking out BASSLAB basses as well they look way cool and appear to be composite as well. Got to do something soon my back cant take the heavy basses anymore.

I would heartily recommend BassLab if you need to cut weight. I have only tried one once, but it was so amazingly light and comfortable and ergonomic, I have never experienced anything like it. I'd love to own one.
It felt a bit unusual though, when I first touched it, mainly because it is so light weight. It seemed like a cheap plastic toy guitar! That feeling vanished though when I started playing and hearing it. Sound was great, clean even response all over, with very natural dynamics and looooong sustain. Lovely!

nlerohl - #103 ... Welcome

Great looking bass! I'm not a Conklin follower, but I don't believe I've ever seen that body shape before ... I like it :D

Conlkin calls this style the Soleil Single-Cutaway

The most popular is the Sidewinder. But Conklin has a few other standard shapes to choose from:

They'll also prepare a shape to your own specifications.

If I ever have a custom built, I think I'll go with a Nuwave body shape because the Sidewinder is so common-place.

nlerohl - is this the first SC in that style? Sure is pretty .... I've seen the Soleil style, but not as a SC ...

Tolerance ... The Sidewinder body style seems so commonplace because of the GT series .... In addition to the great playability and tone, the real beauty of Conklin basses are the finishes. I love the melted tops :D

Just stumbled upon this thread at office. I was fortunate to purchase this:

Roscoe SKB 3006 in June 2010.

6 string Roscoe SKB 3006 figured Maple top over Swamp Ash body, maple neck & fingerboard with Purple heart, Bartolini NTMB pre and Roscoe Barts.

I am a lucky man!

Maybe I should have rephrased my comments. I should have said that, if the opportunity of a custom build arises, then I would prefer the Nuwave design. I like the Sidewinder style. In fact my next bass, hopefully, will be a GTBD-7. I might also pick up a GT-7 later & tune it down to F#. By the time I'm in a position to order a custom job, I will already have at least one of the GT series in my collection. Agreed. Those melted tops look fantastic.

Wow!!! Some beautiful basses count me in on this club. I own a 6 string Zon and a 7 string Conklin Bill Dickens signiture model and I have been looking for a 6 string headless due to back problems. Something along the lines of graphite neck or full on graphite, needs to be light. Any suggestions would be great.

Well, if you like Zon, you can get a 6 string Vinny. I should receive mine soon. Of course, I don't think it will be as light as a Basslab.

dakpluto #104 & Bipslapper #105 ..... Welcome

Dakpluto - is that one of the new SX's? Love to hear some live clips of it in a band setting ....

Bipslapper - beautiful Roscoe (aren't they all?)

Yep, it's the SX. When I can get a recording of it.....that I dunno. Most of my work is show work, and at least the next 5-6 shows I know I'm doing are all upright work, so it might be a while.

I really need to get some decent home recording equipment. But so far I love it. The pickup is a tad weak on the C string, but we are talking a very slight difference. I think a little more work with pickup and string heights will solve it.

It's not the most subtle tone though, that's for sure. It's got quite a bit of kick to it. But that's perfect for what I wanted.

I plan to place an order for a VB6 at some point. I've already contacted Zon for a price. Since my new Warwick Thumb BO 6 acquisition, the Vinny 6 has moved into my top 4 wishlist. (The other 3 presently sitting in my top 4 wishlist is the Conklin BDGT-7, Fender Steve Bailey VI Fretless, and MusicMan Bongo 6.)
