Okay, so as the title says, I need a extension cab to go with my Ampeg B15-N. I do not know how to choose one, hence me asking for help. I have two cabs that are in my mind. The first being the ampeg SVT-15E cab, or the Ampeg B410HE cab. What I am doing is playing in a school sponcered "battle of the bands". My current 15" speaker in the B15-N is not that great....I am just wondering what ya'll would do in this situation. Also, whould I use the "ext. speaker" output in the back of the B15 head to connect to the new cab??

well, the story is....I bought this at a pawn shop. so all I got was the amp. I have done a little research (with a little help from Jimmy on TB), it was made in January of 1974 with an eminance speaker. that is about the extent of what I know. Now I have just been looking on ebay and such and I have found the new Ampeg 210 cab...so I might have solved that problem. My only problem now is how to hook up the external cab to the amp. So back to the research stage. Thanks for the help, and if anybody else knows...please help!
Well yes you would use the "ext speaker out", my concern is proper ohms. IF the internal speaker in 8ohms then get another 8ohm cab and run them together to get full power at 4ohms.
IF the internal speaker is 4ohms then you must disconnect it to add another cabinet.

The fact that you have never heard of a B15N amazes me. It's one of the most famous amps in Bassdom.
Your advice is also flawed as the amp is part of a fliptop which is basically a combo. The regular speaker out is hard wired and is for an 8Ω speaker. Plugging into the external speaker out places the external speaker in SERIES with the hard wired internal speaker. It also shifts the tap on the output transformer to 16Ω to keep the matching correct for the new configuration. If the OP looks he will see that the external speaker jack is insulated from the chassis to allow this. The amp is also a full tube design and will deliver its full power into whatever impedance is correctly attached to it.

OP you should take that amp to a tech and have him check it over. If you just have the amp section you will need to have the attached speaker cable modified to allow the use of a regular cabinet. That cable also completes the ground circuit enabling the amp to actually work. It basically puts the amp in standby unless the matching cabinet is connected.

It's not that I never heard of or played a b15n, I just do not know the working specs & could not quickly find a spec sheet or online manual that's all. That is why i stated the hopefully someone familiar with that combo would chime in.

in regards to the OP, if it's a school hosted event, and you don't know much about the amp/cabinet situation, i would not hurry into buying a new cab. there's lots of info on Talkbass regarding hooking up cabs, impedences, and especially the b15.
i'm just assuming that you've got no knowledge [covering all the bases] of what you've got in front of you. i'm sure with the help of the TB community you will get a nice set up, but (uh-oh) can you get through the show with what you've got? If so, i suggest it. more time studying = cheaper, better decisions
