It controls the amount of voltage going to the circuit. Turning it all the way up gives it the full 9v, and lowering it from there can give it less. Turning it down will essentially give you less headroom. The idea is to simulate a dying battery which is desirable to some in dirt boxes.
I keep mine all the way up.
I've not tried it alone, although I should. The problem didn't exist with my previous loop pedal, a Lehle Little Lehle II, so I just assume it's the One Control.
I am definitely not saying that the BS is not the problem. I just ask because I had 4-5 pedals that just made my chain pop like crazy. I don't have isolated power so I need to have realistic expectations when it come to noise, but I am almost entirely noise and pop free (aside from one or two bad cables from time to time).
Now, with a few pedals that I shall not name, I was having random noise and popping issues. Isolating them helped. But, sometimes, you open up a problematic pedal and see a crazy rat's nest with badly shielded/grounded/soldered/built disaster written all over it, just no way to fix that.
When I want to trouble shoot this kind of stuff, I just do:
Bass > pedal (powered with a 1 spot with just that attached to it, no daisy chain cable, nothing, just the 1-spot directly to the pedal) > SS amp (I use my PJB combo since it play nice, has no tube pre, and will be honest about replicating every piece of noise coming form the pedal). I make sure that I have good instrument cables.
If it still pops after that, the pedal is just faulty. t's funny because I had one pedal in particular that was so bad but it did not pop itself. But, putting that pedal in the chain even made my bass' post become scratchy.
Just got a Barbershop ME...had the old version and ended up selling it because of the pop. This one doesn't have a loud pop, just normal like all my other true bypass pedals. Maybe it depends in the setup? Either way, sounds so freakin good...love it! The switch is a nice feature too.
the idea of a sag pot is to simulate dying battery providing less voltage to a pedal. You usually see them on power supplies (like the voodoo ones have it) and they usually are only for dirt pedals (fuzz especially). I can't say I have ever messed around too much with them but I do remember a few years ago in my AnalogMan Peppermint Fuzz (which only takes batteries) thinking that I had never heard the pedal sound so good and then pop - the battery died. That did light my interest.
They don't make an octave do they? The delay has me GASing pretty hard even though that spot on my board is going to be filled by the Moog MF-Delay for now.

I think I'd have it if they did, as I have been after a good octave, without any features i don't like/need, for a while.
I also like the idea of getting that 4eye fuzz and meat maude. Those are 'want' whilst an octave would be a 'need'.

Have you tried the BYOC version of the Mu-Tron octave divider? At least the aesthetics would match your existing Fairfield stuff.
I have been thinking about it but can't really solder well enough to assemble it. Neither have I found a Europe based vendor (cheaper postage to the UK etc) that sells it as a pedal rather than a kit.
I was however hoping for primaxevintage to sell it . They only stock the kit...
On the new Barbershop...so far very good indeed!

I have never tried such a pedal and must say I am extremely intrigued...even though I am curious what Mike Beigel may be coming out with...might just be a new octave...?

Frankly I don't remember. I think around GBP 60-70 or thereabout. It is a pretty time consuming build. Maybe GBP 80.Thanks VERY Much for the info!

Hey how do people here use the Accountant? I have mine always on, like a dirty compressed preamp. But I was thinking it could also double as a booster or line driver, has anyone tried this?
I am using mine like a boost with a little hair. Ratio set to 1, pad set to 2. It's at the front of the effects chain right now. I have a different compressor at the end before the amp for traditional compression duties.
Yep, mine is used in the same way. I've got it at or towards the front and use it as a dirty boost.
