The point I was making is that it is never right to use someone's name without his/her permission, especially to sell a product. Price, location, the wood used, packing, quality, etc. are totally irrelevant and do not deserve mention. Because this guy is just wrong. Period.

Which is why I stated both my opinions on this - in terms of business ethics - yes it's wrong

BUT

He doesn't seem to care about that.

SO

I tried to give my 2 cents to ANYONE considering buying his products as some people may need a better excuse not to buy than just - It's wrong because he's making fakes.

And it won't stop until he can no longer sell or if he sells so much that actualy legal action is plausible.

Just because the handbags being sold on my corner everyday across from the Gap are fake - doesn't stop people from buying them.

This guy is making his living ripping people off and using their names to sell his products. Please do NOT post your pick of his rip-off Bass on this thread and promote his products encouraging others to do the same.

If you post pics to promote his sales, I will delete this entire Thread!:scowl:

I'm with Ken.

That's just obnoxious.

+1 Ken.

Dont buy rip offs. People spend time and money into designing models, opening shops, employing people to build basses, if you buy the cheap rip offs you're putting the real designers/builders/luthiers out of business. The music industry is already corrupt enough for musicians to screw real luthiers over. Let's try and keep a minimum of respect and honesty by not buying cheap illegal copies of instruments.

Mr. Smith this has probably already been done but I suggest you report that seller not only to eBay but to the proper authorities for using your designs (which hopefully are patented?) and maybe inform the other luthiers/companies whose designs hes ripped off.

I for one, will buy a Ken Smith when I have the money to, because theres no Ken Smith like a real Ken Smith :)

You only have 15 posts, and most of those are in this thread.
Your profile isn't filled out at all.
Troll?!??
Or shill for the eBay rip-off guy???
Take a picture of you with the bass standing in front of Berkely and then we might believe you.

In one thread you stated that you had a Burner stolen.
Then in another you stated you had a BSRP.
I'm not 100% sure, but these are two different models correct??

Ken is 100% in the right about deleating this thread IMO.

9.5!!!:spit: compared to not having a bass at all maybe, but i would like to know which teachers liked that thing.

I think what this guy is doing is disgusting.

Not only is he ripping off KSB and others (I would be PISSED OFF by the way if were me ), odds are if he's willing to rip off people like Ken, he's probably securing his wood in an unsustainable manner and stealing from all of us.

Absolutely eBay should shut this guy down permanently. We can do something about him. Everytime we see him (or someone like him) on eBay we should blast them and complain to eBay that they are endorsing fraud. If eBay get 20 or 30 complaints everytime he puts up a "Ken Smith" or a "Warrior" they will do something about it. I've seen people removed from eBay for less.

Here's the saddest part. This guy with a some work could possibly be a very talented luthier and establish a decent business, but he has chosen the quick, cheap and dirty route. Too bad for him...

If you could bottle the misplaced righteous indignation in this thread, well, you'd have a lot of bottles of misplaced righteous indignation.

Did you say that just to prove you could make up long sentences full of complicated words or are you actually serious?

That goes for a lot of manufacturers, just look at all the Fender clones in the marketplace. Ok, the headstock shapes may be slightly modified, and they aren't calling them Fenders, but even a blind man could see that Leo is getting ripped off every minute of every day by these numerous unlicensed clone builders, but that's totally ok with many, many, people here on TB. Sorry, I don't get it, and I WON'T be spending upwards of 4 grand for an instrument based on a 45 year old design clearly stolen from a dead man. If you think I'm misguided, please enlighten me.

BTW, John Hall vigorously pursues anybody who even remotely copies his designs, and more power to him. Just because Fender has been unable, unwilling, or unsuccessful in doing the same does not make it OK with me to steal his designs. It's not cool to steal from KSB, but it's ok to steal from Fender? You can't have it both ways.
