famous bassists who use picks

What are some famous bassists who use picks? what bands did/do they play for?

I can think of Newstead and Mike Dirnt for starters.

Justin Chancellor of Tool.
Stuart Hamm and Billy Sheehan have used them. Stu used them on the rhtyhm tracks for "The Urge", doubling up picked rhythm lines with plucked rhythm lines.

John Myung of Dream Theater.

Paul gray of Slipknot.
Chris Squire of Yes.

You can see John Entwistle use a pick on "A quick one while he's away" on the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus Video. And Im sure he used them other times as well.

Jerry Peek, at one point with the Steve Morse Band (before LaRue). Although Jerry's use of the thumb technique in unlikely places provided him with more notoriety than the pick did. I'm not sure what he's doing now; I think he lives in Atlanta and does not play full-time.


Also, both guys who played with Alice in Chains. That cool intro to "Rotten Apple" along with the part in "Would?" both sound picked to me.

He did. In interviews that I've read about his earlier days, he talked about using specific kinds of picks. I'm also pretty sure that he used a pick for "Success Story" from "The Who By Numbers" - he used his dreamy Rickenbacker 8-string on that one!

Yes he did, John Paul Jones used a pick on a lot of Zeppelin stuff. Immigrant Song, Song Remains the Same, Achilles Last Stand, and others that I can't recall right now.
