famous bassists who use picks

Where? I've never seen him play with a pick.

My favorite pick bassists are Phil Lesh, Berry Oakley, and Mike Gordon.

I read that he has begun experiencing with a pick on the latest album. I think Never Enough is played with a pick, well i know for sure there's at least one song on Octavarium that he's playing a pick on.

However, he still uses his fingers 99,99% of the time.

Bobby Vega. There was a Bass Player article a few years ago about how he subbed for Rocco in Tower of Power, playing those parts with a pick.

Also, I'll never forget reading a Guitar Player interview with Stanley Clarke around 1975. The interviewer asked him about playing with a pick, and Stanley (the reigning super-duper-monster of technique) replied something like, "Lord knows I've tried, but I just can't get it." Crazy, huh? Take that, you finger-style snobs! (I use both techniques... at least I can say I'm better than Stanley Clarke in that area! )

Jeff Berlin used a pick on a couple of songs with Bruford (but I don't recall seeing him use one after that).

Really? That's interesting. I read an article years ago where he slammed Chris Squire for using a pick and said he wasn't a real bass player. As Squire was my "God" at that time(19 years old) I never listened to another thing with Berlin. He's a great player, but I don't like his attitude.

It's true. It was 1980, the "Gradually Going Tornado" tour. He would walk back to the amp and pick up a pick that was sitting on the amp, and then go back and set the pick back down after using it. I believe he used it on at least a couple of songs (or maybe just parts of songs). Saw him a few years later with Holdsworth (Road Games" tour), and he didn't use the pick IIRC.

Funny. . . when I saw this post I thought of Yngwie Malmsteen too. . . He played lots of bass on his early record, doubling all those fast guitar part on bass, perfectly.

Not sure, but on Heartbreaker it sure sounds like it.
