Famous Big Muff bass lines

Exit Music (for a film) by Radiohead. I believe the bass fuzz is a muff -- awesome bass line.

Nope. Pretty much any bass fuzz on a Radiohead recording is going to be a Shin-ei Champion Fuzz (Exit Music, The National Anthem, Myxomatosis). They are all still really awesome, though.

Although, last time I checked, he was using a Lovetone Cheese Source to get those tones live.

Kings of Leon: McFearless and My Party from Because of the Times
Ok Go: All over Oh No, but I'm not quite as familiar with other albums.
These Arms Are Snakes: All over every album. Specifically check out The S#!^ Sisters (from Oxeneers) and Mescaline Eyes (from Easter).
Weezer: Tired of Sex (one of my favorites of all time), and several other tracks on Pinkerton.

Just to name a few.

kaputsport talked to Chris himself, who verified that Hysteria has the Deep Impact blended with the Muff.

seems like he meant its the DI and Muff live... but i thought the studio was Roland JP-8000 synth over his bass? none the less... its a muff live for sure hah... he's got 3 muff's in his rig on each channel...

You are slightly off here. The Shin-ei is the fuzz on most songs including Exit Music and Myxomatosis, but not on The National Anthem. It's not quite clear what was used in studio, but the Cheese Source is now used for the live fuzz sound on The National Anthem. For songs that used the Shin-ei in studio, he still uses the Shin-ei live.

Here's a picture showing both pedals on his board.

Ooh, that's a good one. Forgot about that, thanks!

i thought the roland was used for TIRO not Hysteria?

possibly.. All i know is they put on one hell of a show the other week lol

TIRO is the DI and dry bass. I have the patch, and I can play it no problem, sounds exactly like the album.

Hysteria is a mystery still .I did speak with Chris personally, and I asked him. He said it was Muff/DI/Clean... However he told Bass Player Mag that it is Muff/Animato/DI/Mic'ed cab and a synth under it.

No idea really. Everytime I get close, I get further away.

"Crawl" from Kings of Leon sounds like a muff but I can't verify. Really you can play plenty of Muse songs with just a Big Muff and they'll sound decent, I play "Time is Running Out" and it sounds good, not spot on but close enough, same with "Hysteria".

+1 on the Mastodon tracks
