Anthony Jackson basically invented the modern 6 string bass.

I say modern because we much previous to that did have something like the Danelectro and Fender Bass VI type instruments, which are basically more like long 30" scale guitars that are tuned down an octave.

After hearing the CD I started going to LA to see them at the baked potato monthly. Hanging out with these guys they are so down to earth I really miss them playing there.
