Hi everyone,

I am looking for an amp for my studio. I have several preamps that I like and use. They all have DI's and I do run them into the mixer. However, I have started miking again and am running into a problem. I live in an apartment and can't really turn up loud enough to feel that I am comfortably covering the fan noise (relative to playing volume versus quiet spots) without causing a problem with the neighbors.

Who makes a fanless head or power amp that is transparent and is reasonably priced? This can be a relatively low wattage amp. 10 or 20 watts would be sufficient for my purposes but I can always turn down if it's 300w (or whatever).

I have several nice cabs that I use so a head is really preferred over a combo.

Your input that actually answers my question is welcome.

A cheaper solution might be getting a long speaker cable and putting the head on the other side of the room from the cab.

Just as an addendum, you're right at 2.4 lbs. and a tested 532 watts into 4 ohms, the Clarus in its quiet fan-less glory and also having 2, count 'em, Neutrik connectors would be a great choice. It's my choice, but at a recently hiked price of $600 street price it's not exactly inexpensive. But if the original poster could spare the cash they'll probably back it up the rest of his life.

Crown K1 or K2. Not light, cheap or low in power but they sound fantastic and run cool even when pushed. Great amps.

Gallien Krueger. Bugera Veyron series. Both bass amps run dead silent. You can't even tell they have fans running.

EDIT: Another OP said the TC Electronics TH head series are also dead quiet and have the programmable effects.

Yes, it works really well, sounds really good and I don't have to dedicate an actual bass head to be the power amp.

And...with every new preamp pedal I get it's like getting a whole new rig!

If you don't want fans reconsider your choice of material. There are a styles that inspire people to walk out. Reducing the quality of your musicianship and starting late can reduce your fan base. No-shows are very effective. Playing dark speed metal with lots of spitting at kid's birthdays is a fan and reputation killer.
