Fav Album hardly anyone has heard

The Butcher's Ballroom - Diablo Swing Orchestra. It might have a larger audience in Sweden, but hardly anyone I speak to in the States has heard about it.

Pink Noise Waltz - Diablo Swing Orchestra

Their lead guitarist is also the guy who composes most of the music, and also played flamenco guitar, piano, sitar, and didgeridoo on the album. And he's the male vocalist on the above recording. Incredibly talented man.

Everyone heard the radio singles from their first album, but their third is by far their best.

Andy Lehman & the Night Moves - Lowcountry
This is a band from my old college town. I think they make a great blend of southern rock, indie folk-rock, and studio pop-polish.

Hanson - The Walk
Yeah, I know. The band tweener girls loved in '97, everyone else hated, and then we all forgot about them. But their recent album is terrific soulful rock.

Josh Garrels - Jacaranda
As a Christian, I freely admit that most Christian music sucks, and most of the stuff that doesn't suck sounds really derivative of some secular band or another. Josh Garrels writes beautiful, complex songs with deep spiritual significance and a great variety of instrumentation. And he doesn't suck.

Like a cross between Led Zepplin and The Roots. Funky-white-boy music at its finest.

"Fiestas and Fiascos" by Lifter Puller, the band Craig Finn was in before he did The Hold Steady. This was my most favorite album of junior and senior year of high school, when I learned that they'd broken up two year prior I was heartbroken. I know the Hold Steady get a lot of love and I'm glad Finn and Kubler are getting a steady paycheck, but Hold Steady can't hold a candle to LFTRPLLR... literally every song is amazing to me.

+1 on Maggie's Dream. When I saw this thread, that's the record that popped into my head for some reason. I seem to remember that the singer was from one of the late 80's boys bands -- Menudo I think. I saw them open for Arc Angels back in the early 90's, and liked them enough to pick up the CD. Several cool tracks on that CD.

I'll add "Psychedelic Sunrise" by the Chesterfield Kings to the list. These guys have been around since 1979 making 60's style garage music. They record with all vintage equipment and are very talented with the production end of things. The bass player, Andy Babiuk, published Beatles Gear, a book which details exactly which guitars, drums, amplifiers and keyboards The Beatles used throughout their career. And I bought my first bass from Andy in 1986.

Cud - Leggy Mambo

They were based in Leeds in the late '80s early '90s when everybody was busy paying attention to whatever was coming out of Manchester, and they didn't fit into that scene so they were overlooked. Brilliant band, brilliantly idiosyncratic vocalist, first two albums are pretty low-budget and just sound like a young guitar band with no money, but third album Leggy Mambo has got some tunes on it. :)

Sadly the next two albums were on a major label and they were a bit *too* slick. :(
