If you like any matt white then this was the category for you! The other category was for gloss white = similar to the options for black. It's hopefully not disenfranchised you any more than having 'Burst of any hue' right i.e. folk aren't saying well I like sunburst but I can't stand this other burst, so I'm unable to vote etc etc? :)

Now I'm really confused. How does one supposedly understand that by "plain/vintage/olympic/cream" you meant matte? The tint of white has no indication of whether it has a gloss or matte surface.

If you mean matte white vs. gloss white, then just call them matte white and gloss white. "Plain/vintage/olympic/cream" is not going to mean "matte" to anybody.

Clearly bassists the world over have wood for wood!

It seems to me that brown and wood actually have quite a lot of overlap, with the distinction being that you can see the grain in 'natural wood'. So in the pic above, how many basses would you describe as wood and how many as simply a brown finish?

E.g. the semi hollow bass at the front would seem to be more 'brown' stain finish than wood (but that may be just 'cos the wood is that color naturally)

Well, I would say Blue, because it is my favorite color; even my "real" horoscope says so...:rolleyes: But, I don't have a blue bass, and have never had the opportunity to buy one. Color choices for left handed bass players can be somewhat... limited, unless you pony up the $$'s for a custom instrument. However, I'm pretty happy with any color - as long as it isn't red. I don't like red for several reasons; not the least of which is that red is my ex-wife's favorite color. Oddly enough, I do have a red bass; but, the '70s Matsomoku-made Epiphone hollow bodies only came in red. So, it's that - or nothing. Purely by chance, though; out of 24 basses? Black is tied with 3 Tone Burst for the majority of them, with the rest being white (that old Lexus Pearl White); natural wood; silver sparkle Masonite; Orange; and a color Rickenbacker calls Desert Gold. And, of course, the red headed stepchild...;)
