I beg to differ. I can't seem to find an overdrive that has a smooth decay, and fuzz is a little too raspy and loose for my tastes. I really love the sound of a DOD FX86 Death Metal distortion. Though I don't one, and breadboards don't count as pedals.
Distortion is my favorite, but what I use all the time is compression. Very poppy and has tons of crush. I use a DOD 280 that I made, and I guess I would say that it's my favorite pedal so far. Although I really like the versatility of the Deep Blue Delay I made... Arg, too many favorites...

I always second guess myself when one of you fine gentlemen says something like this. I would have to say a preamp is an extremely close if not tied with first with delay. Due to the fact I have a preamp running at all times, in fact I feel I NEED one, especially the one I'm using. So I'm with mjac, preamp.
