As a rule, I prefer back-angled headstocks (Gibson style) to straight (Fender style).

I may be biased, but I think this takes a lot of beating (although I'm less keen on 'Wick's 4 and 6 string incarnations):

Although there are several headstock designs that I really like, this is my favorite. It's one of the things that first attracted me to this builder's basses. Makes a statement without trying too hard to get attention. It does two things I like. It's angled (no tees or retainers needed) and it exerts a straight in-line pull on the strings. Looks good in 4,5,6,7 or 8 string configurations, as well.

Like many here, I dig the Fender design. You can have your cake and eat it too. How about an angled Fender style? No string retainer. Whoa!
