David Gilmour's "Murder" (1984), with Pino Palladino on bass. Even though Gilmour himself ain't too shabby on bass – see Pink Floyd's "Hey You" (1979) and other tunes – this was the song that first inspired me to explore the Realm of Fretlessness.

There's about 10 seconds of "bass solo" that have electrified me since I first heard it. That's all it needs, and I wish it would just keep going... I can rewind over this a dozen times in a row and never be dissatisfied:
