    +1 on Aeroplane

Also the "Drop Bass!" bit from Get On The Good Foot. Very simple, but I can't get enough of it

I've always liked Entwistle's little break on 5:15 recorded live at Leeds.

Free's "Alright Now" has a very cool simple solo

  5. Not the best, but the first thing that comes to my head is a song called "Viridian" by a band called "Between the Buried and Me." Don't care for the band too much, but damnit Dan Briggs (bassist) is so incredibly good. Not to mention, the solo is absolutely beautiful.

    I believe that's played with a pick.

    Ummm...let' see-
"Scorpio"- Bob Babbitt w/ Dennis Coffey & The Detroit Guitar Band
Keeping it Low & with speakers a-clippin'. ;)

    No mention (that I saw)-
Willie Weeks on "Everything Is Everything" (from Donny Hathaway Live)

You guys have named some cool ones, though. Tal's solo on "Cause We Ended As Lovers" is nice. I wonder if it was improvised or...?

Back in the day, Greg Ridley's break on "I Don't Need No Doctor" from Humble Pie's Rockin' The Fillmore was a big one for me as I was just learning about "bass". Same, too, for Peter Cetera's bass break in "Beginnings".

Whatever version of "Smooth Operator" they played in clubs during the '80s...I assume it's the album version (it's maybe an 8-bar bass break. Denman's fretless Music Man bass is either flanged/chorused...or both).

    Bass break is at 2:50

    Ha...it is 8 bars.
    Long-term memory: Intact.
    Everything else? FAIL

Jason Newsted, in the song 'metalshock' from DFTD. Still sounds better than pretty much anything he's done since.

i agree that that is sick but my favorite is free will by rush of course he shreds that bass and makes it his bitch in the solo and its not just cause its technical it is a perfect fit in the song

Great call. I'm no Jaco/Weather Report fan, but his playing on that song is tremendous. AAAB has always been one of my favorite tunes.

  18. Conditions by We Came As Romans.
Starts off as a melodic breakdown then fades quickly with vocals and a funky jazzy bass riff comes out for 2 or 3 bars then straight back into a hard hitting verse.
