Not the best, but the first thing that comes to my head is a song called "Viridian" by a band called "Between the Buried and Me." Don't care for the band too much, but damnit Dan Briggs (bassist) is so incredibly good. Not to mention, the solo is absolutely beautiful.
Haven't seen these two mentioned yet - classic rock and roll bass solos IMO

Back in the day, Greg Ridley's break on "I Don't Need No Doctor" from Humble Pie's Rockin' The Fillmore was a big one for me as I was just learning about "bass". Same, too, for Peter Cetera's bass break in "Beginnings".

Whatever version of "Smooth Operator" they played in clubs during the '80s...I assume it's the album version (it's maybe an 8-bar bass break. Denman's fretless Music Man bass is either flanged/chorused...or both).

i agree that that is sick but my favorite is free will by rush of course he shreds that bass and makes it his bitch in the solo and its not just cause its technical it is a perfect fit in the song
Great call. I'm no Jaco/Weather Report fan, but his playing on that song is tremendous. AAAB has always been one of my favorite tunes.
