My favorite instrument stereotypes are here:
Bill Anschell, Jazz pianist, composer, arranger and humorist based in Seattle
The bass one is this:
Yeah, fits me pretty well.
Bassists are over weight, ugly, and Bald.

At his first lesson, Johnny learned about the E string. At his second lesson, he learned about the A string. He couldn't make the third lesson because he had a gig.

Guess my ethnicity...but I get all the time...
"Geez...I thought a guy who looked like you would play better than that! Aren't you people SUPPOSED to play bass awesome?!"
and/ or
"Aren't you guys supposed to play funk like really well? Do some slappin and poppin!"
Funny how the stereotype seems to have changed over the years
Back in the 70's, when I first started playing, the stereotypical bass player was the tall, skinny guy with a full head of long hair and BIG mutton-chop sideburns (or equivalent over-the-top facial hair)
Oh......and zooper-wide bell bottom trousers
I can also recall a time when vests were part of the "uniform" too
