My wife and I like to play board games with our family and friends. Monopoly can get ugly in my family, if you didn't know us you would think we hate each other and my sister-in-law tries to cheat.
Lately we have been playing a game called "Who Knew?" with our friends. It is a great game to get to know people. It also causes some very funny arguments between couples.
There are also games we like that are not technically board games like Jenga, Catch Phrase and playing Connect Four with my grandson.
We like board games because it gives us a lot of time to talk and just have fun as well.
Are there board or non board games that you like?

I'm a bit of a board game geek, so my preferences are generally not for the more casual players.
I like Carcassonne as a fairly easy to learn introduction to more complex games. Similarly Smash Up and Settlers of Catan are fun and not too hard to learn.

On the more complex side, I've been enjoying Mage Wars, Level 7 Omega Protocol, and A Few Acres of Snow recently.

Carcassonne is a great game. In our family, we also play Settlers of Catan. That's even better.

Another game I found when living in Germany was called Karolus Magnus. I still have my German copy - I think I heard it was released in English but is hard to find. It actually is very good at conveying what early medieval politics were like, while still being a very fun strategy game. Ah, here it is... http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/481/carolus-magnus
