I sure like my Roscoe SKB 5 string! Looks killer, fabulous sound, fine craftsmanship, what’s not to like? The Roscoe B string sound lives up to its legendary reputation. I haven’t owned other high end brands (though I have played some Lulls I really like), but I’m can heartily recommend Roscoe.

Ken Smith. Especially the older ones with the large black headstock and 2 band preamp. Best basses ever made IMO.

I've owned Laklands, Pedullas, Ken Smiths, Foderas, Pre-CBS Fenders, Custom Shop Fenders, early G&Ls, Pre-EB MusicMans (MusicMen?) and others, and of those the sounds that I liked best are the Foderas. I'd love to own an Alembic and a Wal.

I’ve only played a couple and I liked Carl Thompson the most. Did not bond with the Alembic I tried... I’d need more time with Dingwalls, but the fancy one I tried didn’t impress me... Not sure if considered boutique, but I really liked a german Warwick Star Bass II...

I've owned Dingwall, Skjold, Roscoe and Status Graphite basses. All absolutely amazing and unique in their own way.

I've owned quite a few Boutique basses and all have been good but here is the order I've owned.

1. Devon Basses- Noone gives you more for the money than Devon Does. Best Basses I've played or owned (Flawless Builds)


2. Roscoe Basses- Keith Makes a great product and takes care of Customer
3. STR- Very nice basses but not int he USA
4. Warrior- JD has the ability to make as good a bass as anyone but it's a roll of the dice with what you get
5. Benavente- Chris makes a very playable and very good built basses.
6. Ristola- No longer in bussiness but makes a very nice bass for the money
7. Bacchus Custom- Some of the best Jazz basses you can get for the money

Lakland. I prefer passive and am comfortable on Fender basses but Lakland does it so much better. I've never played an "average" Lakie- they range from excellent to sublime. Yup

Devon basses are by far the best boutique basses for the money you can buy. For what he gives you no one else can touch.

I couldn't agree more with this. His basses have blown $6500 basses I've owned. Best basses I've ever played or owned.

I've owned a lot of dream basses. Since I've owned two Alembics, I'll change my order to a Ritter.
I knew a guy had two amazing Ritters for sale, at a bargain of $10k each. I will forever kick myself for not lightening his load.
