Favorite headstock shapes...

I am going to throw something in here that no one seems to care about, so I wonder if it is just me. For me, a headstock is only attractive if the strings go straight over the nut to the pegs, no angle of deflection side to side, and require no string retainers. Anyone else?

I agree about the strings going straight across but I don't like angled headstocks which is what you would need to remove the string retainer from the D and G string.

One of my personal favorites:

Me too... kinda like my Nordy.

I agree...to me it looks better if the strings go straight over the nut. But if they are deflected, at least make it look intentional. I have seen some Fender-esque headstocks that just don't quite line up. That doesn't work. Either line up the strings or make it obvious that you weren't trying to line up the strings.

If I hate how a bass looks, I won't play it. I guess it comes from being in graphic arts/design... Aesthetics matter! Well, to me at least...

Same here, that's why I could never play fenders, i just don''t like how simple they look. Love the sound, hate the look, kinda irritating really, lol.

I love the headstock of my LTD, I don't have a picture of my actual bass, nor a camera to do so, so here's a pic of it from google >.>

Although honestly I have a hard time looking at the headstock with the beautiful inlay :smug:

The shape of the headstock as crazy as it sounds is a big factor in the overall appeal of a bass. I loved my 92 Foundation... but the revamped peavey headstock shape for it was just nasty IMO...between that and its color (it was red, hate red basses) I just couldnt get over it and it was gone.

That said, my fav headstocks are the older style Peaveys (those are #1 of all the headstocks I like), the BC Rich headstock that has a pic on this thread (the Widow headstock) and I do love the headstock on my Ric 4003. I also really like the headstock on my Fender 'Cowpoke' Its the same shape as the standard Fender headstock but narrower/smaller and that just sets it off IMO. Also the headstock on my Brownsville Bat was wicked and I have to give an honorable mention to the headstock on my 88 Yammy RBX200. Oh yea not to mention the headstock on that Bongo posted here looks tight. heheh
