Favorite Heavy Distortion

Aw, it wasn't that dead... We sometimes have people reviving threads from years ago!

Not to mention, the thread revivers often give the OP answers to the question they moved on from...

I'd think that after three or four years, the OP probably doesn't care anymore about when the new _____ is coming out, or if the _____ is better than the _____, since the OP has probably bought and sold both by now. :D

I am going to wrap this up right here and now.

I use both a ---- and a ---- AT THE SAME TIME when I want heavy, thick, hard distortion. It will absolutely wipe off anything that anyone has suggested thus far.

It's a neat trick, although I'm less convinced that the two boxes savinggrace mentions are the magical keys. A lot of distortions/ODs are brilliant when cascaded. If you've been looking for the perfect distortion, experiment w/ combining some of the pedals you already own.

And, as always, blending some clean signal with the lava often helps the tone sit in the mix.

Well, my magical key may not be yours (of course)- and vice versa! It is an amazing combination of tone for what my taste prefers.

But the main point is utilizing the "cascading effect" that you refer to.

In my case this means cascading the musicality and tube beefy-ness of the English Muff'n in combination w/ the Metal Muff or / AND (yes I am saying sometimes using all three pedals at once sometimes!) the Depth Charge which has the clean blend option.

It is devastatingly brutal and heavy. Oh, and the orignal notes can be arranged to still be heard w/o being overshadowed by fuzz/ distortion... if so desired.

BJFE Blue Berry helped me create the heaviest thing I've ever written:

When that's not enough, I run the clean boost on my Hematoma in front of it and carpet bomb the entire neighbourhood.

I don't mean to split "hairs" here and i guess anything that produces a square sine wave is distortion but to me (and this is only a matter of opinion) a fuzz pedal isn't something i would call a "distortion" as such.
I probably don't have as much experience with varying pedals as some of the other lads here but if and when i go looking for a "distortion" pedal i don't go looking for a fuzz.

Is this making any sense ????

Anyway now that i've just hijacked your thread i would say for note clarity and a smooth "distorion" tone i get good results from a Radial Tonebone Hot british. Very versatile with lots of overall control .

Wow... was all the gain on that big main riff just the blueberry? That blueberry keeps sounding better and better... the more clips I hear, the more it sounds like its well worth the price of admission.

I agree with that, when I think distortion I don't think fuzz. Fuzz is a completely different ball game.

Yep, all Blue Berry with the tone at zero and the drive cranked. The only difference between the main lines and the sub-bass line is that with the sub-bass I have the passive tone control killing all the treble.

I have never once regretted spending 3 bills on the Blue Berry. It simply is THAT good.

Nad, that's an AWESOME clip! It's not exactly what I'm looking for in my own sound, but it's nevertheless a killer instrumental. That Blue Berry sounds amazing!

Thanks. I'm thinking its about time for me to be looking for one of these.

Thanks man, I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on that one so far. :D It was weird, I do listen to a lot of stoner/doom music but my writing style never fits into that genre, this one just sorta came out a few days while, oddly enough, I was screwing around with a simple punk song. Go figure.
