Favorite Ibanez Bass?

I own a BTB405 and an SR400.. The truth is that I find the feel and tone of my SR much sweeter then any other bass I've played, inc. the BTB.. I've played other SR's (4, 5 and 6 sstringers) and they just were not the same. Maybe is the strings and how I have the bridge set up, or the fact that it was my first and only bass for 4 years. But well my Favourite ibanez would be an SR3000 with a Btb neck.. I voted BTB..

I love the BTB's And EDA series basses. I Play an EDA 905 currently and I really love its desighn and feel.

My only bass. I have yet to really play any other. This one seem to work just fine. '79 Studio Bass.

yeah, i love ibani (plural?) they are the greatest. i started on a tr100 and later got an EDB400 (much better than the cheap 600s, better harderware, more comfortable, just generally more upgrades) and used that for my main bass for over a year, Then moved to and SR406 (recently stolen) which i have played ever since (about 2 1/2 years) and replaced by an '88 Ibanez custom 6 string fretless. dizang,i dont know, at first they just fit my budget but especially the Ergodyne and Soundgear have changed my mind, i dont know about the new stuff that i havent played but i definately think that they sound awesome for the price.

You people who voted for anything other than "Older Ibanez stuff like Fender copies and musicians" must have never owned or played any of that stuff. It was really something special. Most of their newer stuff is rather run of the mill. jmho

I like the soundgear 800. The lower end soundgears are so much different in quality when compared to the 800.

I currently use a Ibanez EDB605 which I enjoy very much.

Just picked up an Ibanez SR500FL. I don't care for the Soundgear fretted necks, but I fell in love with the fretless version. IMO, the preamp is surprisingly good too, considering the bashing the Soundgears take on this forum. Very nice upright-like sounds out of it.

The TI flats it was strung with probably have a lot to do with that, though.

My '79 Ibanez Roadstar II.

Now she has Bartolini 8S's, and a Badass II bridge... Plus a homegrown lowpass/passive switch...

The tone out of this thing is unreal, punchy - yet warm. It is one of the nicest playing p-bass's I have ever played, and it looks real purdy too. Swamp ash body, maple neck/board. Chrome Hardware... sweeeeeeet, sorry no pics of her in the "new state"...

I never knew so many other people played ATK's too. I loved it when I bought it, then began to hate it for awhile, and now love it again - it's like an extension of my body. I remember when I first bought it, I was most impressed by the tone. I passed up trading my ATK 4-string for a 5 string Soundgear recently, just because I couldn't bear parting with it..I'm going to keep it forever, and just buy a new 6-string when I can afford it.

dunno man, the look has grown on me...

but it plays like a slice of heaven.

a few bad points for the ATK:
-heavy
-weird (or ugly) headstock
-weird bridge
-G string can't be bended as much (minor flaw but it is there)
-discontinued (this is either good or bad, bad if you cant find one, good if you have one)

but the good points make for everything else:
-Nice B string
-OMG the tone! (slap or pluck it always win)
-easy to dial controls
-Pickup switch (changes from traditional to bright to modern tone in less than a second)

I'm a firm believer that the Ibanez stuff can be pretty good, but they QC isn't the best, so more lemons than should be allowed pop up. However, I do dig their basses.

At the Gerald Veasley Bass boot camp, Gary Willis saw my SRX700 and asked"what is this?, is it new?",and Doug Wimbish said"nice bass". I agree, I love it. My fender am.dlx.jazz is still my main ax. I alternate them each week that I play.

ATK's are the best ibanez basses PERIOD. i like the ibanez basses as well. some of them anyway. And they are not discontinud, just not selling in the usa. go to the website, and click on a diff place instead of the usa. they should be there.

Interesting I have an Ibanez Roadstar II as well,
but the headstock on mine looks more like
a Fender than the one in Tecx's post.
I'm a leftie and in Aus. dunno if that would make any difference?
Maybe mines older or something?
Still I picked it up cheap... 'round about US$100-
immaculate condition, and so far it makes some really nice tones and is easy to play,
so I'm pretty happy.

Yours is probably newer. I have one with the tuners in-line (Fender) and also with a J-pickup.
It's a 1985 model.
