Favorite lightweight bass cab with good low-end?

Markbass Traveler 151 and NY151 are great and both weigh less than 40 lbs. I use their discontinued Club 15 and I love it. I'm a Markbass guy primarily but Mesa's stuff is always great too. Switching to a 15" should help for your needs as long as you get a good quality cab. I've tried all kinds of rigs and I always come back to 15" drivers, and usually I favor just one for some reason.

Another thing to consider is that many of the light weight cabs also use lighter and/or thinner plywood to build the cabs. That's part of what makes my 15 so light but I'll admit it does compromise the sound a bit. Seems like you might have thought of this. Your orange cab/lightweight driver idea might get you some of the best of both worlds but I'd try to talk to a cabinet expert first.

Subway 15 user. 1 hand carry if necessary (2 side handles so slightly awkward but doable) just over 35 lbs. excellent bass tones.

Hi all, I've been currently running a Darkglass M900 into a Mesa powerhouse 212 for the last year or so, and i like the tone, but I've been having to haul around my rig more often, and this cab is getting old moving around all the time. I like the tone of it, but it is a little harsh on the treble side. I've cut the tweeter, and have my treble rolled back a good amount on the amp.

My question to you is, what are some good lightweight bass cabs that have a more low end focus? Maybe even a cab that doesn't have a tweeter? I was looking at the Mesa Subway 115's, but don't know much about them. I've owned lots of GK NEO's in the past, but still found them more treble-y than I prefer.


I was thinking 2 1x15 cabs might be good? Opinions?


Another idea was getting 2 Orange OBC115's, and swapping the speakers for a neodymium speaker. I've always been an Orange fan.

I love my GK MB210-II. Light (39 lbs.!) and not too big. 350W by itself or 500W total paired with its matching extension cab.

You really should look at the Barefaced range.

If you can find a CN212 GRAB IT. Bergantino. The HDN (new series) has more treble than the CN but it's manageable. The HD series are still the Gold Standard in my opinion.

Carvin MB15 with neo speaker (200w) and matching 115MBE (becomes 250w), I think mine is terrific. Size is 12 x 17 x 18, 28.7 lb and 24.8 lb respectively.

+1 on the Bergantino CN212. Great cab, very solid low end, nice musical tweeter that you can turn all the way down if desired. 47lbs.

I love Mesa amps, but am less enamored of their cabs (I have not tried the Agedhorse era Subway 15's or 12's). I have had Powerhouse cabs before. IMO/IME they tend to have a baked in upper mid thing thats kind of harsh (to my ears anyway). They weigh a ton, but they are built like tanks and will likely last a long time.

I have recently got a couple of Bergantino HD210s that sit under an Aguilar DB751 or TH500.

At 25Kg each they are not light but they are manageable (I'm only 80Kg) and the sound is fantastic.

Try the Berg 1-12 lines, I have a CN112 which I love, two would be huge or could team with a Berg 210.

I'm still surprised of how much low end a PJB C4 does have. Sometimes I have to decouple it from the ground to reduce it.

I played a gig last week and took my Orange 115 with a TB500. After a pretty good haul from the parking lot, through a gaggle of people in the bar and a hefty lift up a 2 foot stage, I was seriously considering just using my Darkglass DI from here on out.

Check out Revsound. His thing is "lightweight and loud!" [I have his 1x10 without tweeter; I can't imagine two 1x15s!]

+1 on Barefaced. Big Baby 2, Super Midget, Four10 are all stellar cabs. So too would be the Super Twin, Big Twin, etc, which are 2x12 cabs. Big Baby 2 has lots of low end focus, and from the audience sounds a bit like you have PA support for the bass when you don't-- thick, rich, fills a room. It's a 26-29 pound cab depending on grill. Four10 is 49-51 pounds depending on grill. SM is only 21 pounds.

Naturally there are other good, light cabs, but I love the Barefaced.
