In my own opinion id say Ryan from Mudvayne, Cliff Burton, and Justin Chancellor... will someone please explain why mudvayne changed to what they are now??? i havent seen Ryan since tour last summer.... i dont understand the new image... its sorta gay... oh well.... but those are my three.....

Actually Lack, if you really wanted to check out Tony's playing, I suggest getting their next release, Elements. Even though Tony played on Unquestionable Presence, all of the bass lines he plays on that album were orginally written by Athiest's original bassist, Roger Patterson, who sadly died in a car accident before the recording of the album. (Roger was also an awesome bassist, though he wasn't as Jazz/Latin influenced as Tony is) All in all though, Athiest is one of my favorite metal bands and sadly overlooked.

I never SAID he was "the best bass player, of all time." Is he my FAVORITE bass player of all time? Yes. But I wouldn't say the best.

No, we got into a debate a few days ago.

He (or somebody else, forgot) said I was in a musical closet because Cliff Burton is my favorite bass player...etc.

IMHO, I think he's the best. Not the best of ALL TIME, but he was pretty damn good.

Wasn't me.

And we didn't say it was because he was your favorite, but that you held him up on a pedestal like a legendary bass player with an amazing set of post mortem chops. Could he play? Yes. Was he that special/amazing? No.

Rex from Pantera and Down is a real good metal bassist imo. Alot of his lines dont get technial or anything but they fit well and he plays with dimebag which must be a challenge. I think some of his best work is on down 2 and The Great Southern Trendkill.
