Favorite Musical...

My Crazy Ex Girlfriend has some cool musical numbers.

The Jungle Book. Louis Prima.
crazy ex girlfriend was great!

And in the '90 Disney villains had good songs. Be prepared for Scar and Hellfire in the Hunchback are both great!

My favourite is Jesus Christ Superstar.

My sister was a professional dancer and choreographer until she got to a level where the cutthroat atmosphere sucked the fun out of musical theater for her. I've seen a lot, but the musical I think of most frequently would be "Avenue Q". I don't think i can link anything here without getting modded, but them's some catchy tunes. I routinely get the internet song stuck in my head... "grab your **** and double click for ****"

I played in the pit for The Sound Of Music, Oliver! (both trombone), The Boy Friend and Jesus Christ Superstar (both bass) and obviously learnt the entire (including the librettos) performances by heart.... some great music in all four, but, if I had to choose the best, it would have to be Oliver! Lionel Bart was an amazing composer....

Was lucky enough to see the original cast on Broadway when I was a teenager. Still enjoy jamming along to the soundtrack when I have time.

Also I’m a huge Who fan so Tommy also gets my nod. Saw the original cast when I was in high school. Was a drummer back then and saw an article in Modern Drummer about Luther Rix who was the drummer for the Broadway production. Knocked on the stage door and asked if I could meet him. Nicest guy in the world. Gave my family and I a backstage tour and even took us down in the pit and let me play his drums. Still want some instrument in tangerine satin flame thanks to him.

If you’re talking old school then it’s a tie between Guys and Dolls and Kiss Me Kate.

I grew up with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JCSS - my brother bought the original double album with Ian Gillan as Jesus and Alan Spenner on bass when it came out. Plus his “Song and Dance” show - which combined the fabulous Variations album with Tell Me On A Sunday.

But my top world be Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds. I bought it on release day and saw it live twice with much of the original cast, including Herbie Flowers on bass!

Rent is #1 for me as well. That must have been quite a show, I've seen it a few times but never with the original cast. Great music, great story!

...although, to be fair, this and Phantom Of The Opera are the only ones I've actually seen live. If I had seen some of other ones live as well, I might feel differently.
Same here. Les Mis was truly jaw dropping and tear jerking purely because of the music and the stage sets were incredible. Saw Phanton both times in the early 90s in San Francisco… just in front of the pit and right under the chandelier!

West Side Story, because when you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way…

West Side Story will always be my favorite; it was the first HS play I acted in. (I was a Shark!) I've heard it's a beast to perform.

Rent! comes in a close second. I'm convinced that the Santa Fe bass line was written on a cello.

I saw a local theater group do 13 the Musical, and while I found the storyline more than aggravating, the song "Little More Homework" got me in the feels.
