Favorite "Noise" Band - Grindcore - "All" Core

I know that most of the bassists in these genres don't hold the high quality talent that jazz bassist's like Mingus and rock legends like Pastorius hold......but I was just wondering where this would go. In their own craft and genre I think these two guys are absolutely awesome.

Yeah, you can keep your prog rock, prog jazz stuff, none of them can hold a candle to the time/feel changes of Naked City, and at the same time Naked City are as loud and as mental as anything I've ever heard. Well maybe Ground Zero come pretty close, being that the best gig I've ever been to was Ground Zero in London about 10 years ago.

definitely. I should have not even Included any 'core' bands but yea anyways at least I'm getting somewhere with this thread and can listen to some bands I have never heard of. Like most of you.....I disagree about core labels.

Dan Lilker from Brutal Truth the band that some would argue invented grindcore(I don't know about that but either way they kick @$$). If you haven't already check out "Sounds of the Animal Kingdom". There is a lot of good audible bass playing and a couple of noise tracks that are creepy and make me uncomfortable in a good way.

As for pigeon holes why does every thread that involves heavy music of some sort turn into that's not this it's this arguments. Is it heavy? Distorted guitars? Crazy time changes? Angry young gentleman screaming at you? If yes then it's metal to me. Who cares what word is in front of core if makes your neck hurt and you get a tingling in your nether-regions? :)

for pure "noise" the bassist who played with Mayuko Hino's C.C.C.C. takes the cake: pure sonic mayhem that has more to do with the strict engineering definition of "noise" (i.e., all frequencies all the time) than anything remotely Bass Player Magazine-like.

No idea what his name is. He played one of those black Yamaha headless basses through a buttload of stompboxes while Ms. Hino removed all her clothes & poured molten wax over her naked body while banging on a metal barbecue grill that had been fitted with contact microphones. Completely transcendent experience.

Greg Weeks of the Red Chord is awesome. And the dude from See You Next Tuesday is really good, but I'm not into that band. They play the club I work at a lot, and I'm always impressed with him. But the band/ songs I could do without.

Pete Dempsey from Scald, a grindcore that has been engaging in a lot of noise lately. Solid bassist for a solid band. Their last two albums, Vermiculatus and Fluke, feature the first half being grindcore, with the second half noise/experimental. I think Fluke is probably the best album they've done so far, wouldn't be a bad place to start with them.

I just got kind of confused, because I really don't see the connection between -core and noise. It'd be like asking "What are your favourite country and industrial bands?". A legitimite question, but a bit odd. But if you're only talking about grindcore, then I understand, cause some grindcore (noisecore) bands have noise influences.

On topic, the only noise I've ever actually listened to (I can't say I enjoy the genre a whole lot) is Boris with Merzbow, so I suppose Takeshi would be my favourite bassist in the genre, simply because he's the only one I know :P

I'll second Brian Gibson and would also add Kawamoto Hideki from the early Ruins. Definitely Brian Gibson though, nobody plays with more intensity. I love how a lot of people claim to want to see the bass get pushed further, and by that they mean "Who's going to make the next pseudo-jazz-noodle-on-a-bunch-of-scales record" when you got a guy who is really working outside the envelope by playing banjo strings over six loops and just tearing it up. Long Live Lightning Bolt!

And since we're not strictly limited to noise her I would throw in Rika mm' from Melt Banana as being awesome.
