Favorite Prog Bassists!

there was an american prog band in the 70's called "ethos". they had only one lp i know of called "ardor". dude played an alembic, and was really really good. also, speaking of american 70's prog, happy the man was fantastic, with a great bassist. more kudos for andy west.i don't know if u could call em "prog" but crack the sky,esp the song "ice" had great bass work. hellmut hattler of kraan-excellent on the rickenbacker. tom fowler from zappa's band, played on steve hackett's 2nd solo lp....i think ray bennett from flash is equally brilliant to my main man, chris squire.

Jonas Reingold (Flower Kings, Kaipa, tangent) is by far the greatest if you ask me(and I think you did). His own project/band Karmakanic is really worth a listen. They're on Spotify and iTunes. I think some of his best bass lines ever are on these records!

Other than that, Kristoffer Gildenlöw is high up there. He's in Pain of Salvation.

Tony Levin plays great on Liquid Tension Experiment and Steven Wilsons Insurgentes.

Juan Alderete de la Pena, Colin Edwin, Martin Mendez (if you see Opeth live, scream out for a bass solo. worked in oslo:)), Geddy Lee, Randy George, Dave Meros, Wolstenholme, John Myung.

Most of my favorites have been mentioned. While I did see some love for Joey Vera, I didn't see any for the guy who he replaced in Fates Warning...Joe Dibiase(sp). His work on tracks like "Monument" were great. Not to mention the whole "Perfect Symmetry" album.

I'm a huge fan of Rush and Yes, but those bassists go without saying.

One I hardly ever see mentioned (but, gladly, have seen mentioned here) is Ray Schulman of Gentle Giant. He's got funk. He knows how to make a unique, fun bassline that absolutely rocks.

Plus, the multi-instrumentalism thing isn't that bad either.
