Favorite Prog Bassists!

Oh and I also know... OPETH! Huge fan here. Went to their concert here in Austin. Awesome for the most part, including the other band Baroness (I didn't like their recordings but their live was INCREDIBLE. Guess they're just one of those bands), but Opeth messed up on... FACE OF MELINDA! Huge downer :( But other songs were flawless :) It's All good.

I don't know if they're all really "prog", but they meet my requirements. I especially love the fretless metal players.

God.. It's so great how many of you cite Ray Shulman of GENTLE GIANT. I always loved his violin playing on those records, too. Some really fine harmony singing/songwriting on those old GG albums, something I find other prog to be lacking sometimes (not that I'm an expert). So... who these days is putting out music like that? I'm trusting fellow TB'ers to turn me on to new stuff.

Oh, would Colin Moulding from XTC count? Maybe not prog, but great stuff nonetheless... One of my personal favorites, along with Bruce Thomas (definitely NOT prog!).
