Whatever one can do to avoid or limit shipping is the winner IMO. Shipping kills the buyer's budget and eats away at how much you can ask for.

The ebay hate is gonna be strong in this thread, and I think it’s justified now more than ever. The buyer is king. Facts don’t matter. Evidence doesn’t matter. The buyer will win in a dispute. I’ve done well here. Craigslist is good for local cash sales.

I use the eBay Kleinanzeigen. (I don't think eBay has "want ads" in other countries besides Germany) No fees, but no protections, either.
To be fair, none of my transactions have been over €100. Most have been much less. I only deal with used El Cheapos.

Craigslist always gives me the best results. Reverb rips you off, but your chances of selling is probably the best.
reverb is well worth it, especially when issues arise. i stopped selling on the eBay account I've had for 20 years after a few popped up. reverb safe shipping has saved my bacon when ups has abused packages (which seems to occur often with heavy bulky amps)
i have used ebay (for ~20 years) selling mostly pro audio gear. i've used CL for the biggest/heaviest stuff: local sales. TBH: i haven't sold/shipped anything in the past year: figured i'd wait for the plague to wind down and then shed some more 'stuff'. i've been more of a buyer (instrument parts) than a seller the past few years!
i'm not opposed to any platform, in general. i think it just depends on what i'm selling and where i think the interested buyers might be. when i resume, i'll check out FB marketplace and others. if i had instruments to sell i'd use TB in a heartbeat.
my most 'ambitious' selling days are probably behind me. it's more of a 'cruise' from here on out....

I really like trading, and have basically 0 local market, so Talkbass is by far number 1 for me. I do use reverb also, but prefer to sell on here if I can. I use eBay for non-bass stuff but sparingly.
I am glad this thread materialized. I want to put my olde Markbass rig on the block but am hesitant to use eBay who seem to side with the buyer if a dispute arises or Reverb after reading about the Etsy sitch. I've read CL has quick results and local pickup which would be nice, but I've read there are a lot of 'tire kickers' too. I am heavily considering ponying up for a membership on TB so I can post a classified ad. Would I need to purchase a year membership or would a monthly membership work as well??
For a long time it was eBay but lately I just sell to my local guitar center or to friends locally. Have a couple buddies that work at GC. I talk to them ahead of time. GC has a reputation of lowballing people but My friends there actually give me good enough prices that it’s not worth the hassle of paying seller fees, dealing with shipping, or dealing shady buyers

For non-US Talkbass classifieds are a bit disappointing. Everything (basses, amps and effects) in one forum with not too much traffic.

Glad to see this thread pop up. With band gigs VERY slow and all the extra time that's provided, we've been looking around at stuff to sell.
Had a lot of success on eBay from 2005 to 2009 selling many music-related items to help finance college for two youngest children. We've restocked since then and now possible "sales" will supplement upcoming "retirement" as wife and I have a lot of "stuff" we no longer need, use, or want BUT can be sold.

TalkBass is usually the first place I try to buy or sell from. Lots of great people here!
I’ve been on eBay like 20 years and I usually use it to buy. No problems ever! Sold one bass in the last year and all went well.
Reverb is great for buying, but it’s the last place I’ll list something for sale because of the fees.
OfferUp and Facebook marketplace has the most amount of tire kickers for trying to sell, but my last few purchases have been found through both and went very well. My beef with OU is that people don’t mark their item as sold and listings will stay up for years. Communication is a crapshoot as well. I’ve sent messages to people who are actively listing items with zero response. I’ve also had it where it takes multiple days between responses and I generally won’t deal with those people. Messaging on that app/website is instant and I don’t understand the reluctance or (maybe) the laziness to reply. The deals that have worked out have been great, but patience is a must!
