Yep, apparently Mark has this alternate identity as an alt-rock session player. According to William Wittman (the engineer who recorded & mixed Osborne's album) Mark leaves his Pedullas at home and shows up with an old beater Fender Precision for these gigs. Plugs into an Ampeg flip-top, rocks everyone's socks off, and then goes home and back to being the New Age/jazz fusion chopsmeister that everyone is familiar with. He's also played with Shawn Colvin, Dar Williams, Cindy Lauper, Marianne Faithful, and Roger Daltry (!) Plus that was Mark on the Arcadia album (Duran Duran offshoot with Simon LeBon and Nick Rhodes).

This was an under the radar hit; as far as the U.S. is concerned, her only hit(she had some other tunes out that just didn't ignite). She moved to Europe where she's sustained a career over the decades. You've undoubtedly heard this in the supermarket or elsewhere. She plays the Leon Russell-style gospel piano parts, but the slamming rhythm section is Leland Sklar and Jim Gordon, just another day at the office for them...


Someone with pipes needs to cover this and make it a hit again(and there have been some wretched versions in the past).
