Who was the dude for the Fixx? One Thing Leads to Another was always one of my faves.

But yeah, John Taylor for sure. Pino, though I didn't know who he was at the time. Tony Levin. Good call on Mario Cippolina too.

My faves were (and, perhaps not surprisingly, still are) Mick Karn and Tony Levin.

At the time I really loved Sting's work with The Police.

And Terry Jackson on Thomas Dolby's Aliens Ate My Buick, omigod that guy was totally badass!

Always loved the basslines from Echo and the Bunnymen, the Cure, the Banshees, U2 and Joy Division/New Order. Not fretboard athletics, but memorable basslines that you couldn't imagine the songs without:

New Years Day - U2
A Forest - The Cure
Happy House - Banshees
The Cutter - Bunnymen

The list goes on....

My choices are John Taylor for his work with Duran Duran and the KILLER first Power Station record and Patrick O'Hearn from Missing Persons. Spring Session M is one of the greatest 80's pop rhythm section (O'Hearn and Bozzio) groove albums.

True, he was. And I still did Sting's work with The Police, whom I think were the most original-sounding band of the decade.

+1, pretty much all of his lines from their 80's output through Wish are terrific, Lullaby and Hot Hot Hot were the first two lines I thought of when I saw the thread title.

makin' copies ...great SNL skit! saw him & the Police many times..awesome! someone mentioned bassist from Bow Wow Wow..they opened for The Police Ghost in The Machine tour when I saw them. Most insane bass playing I've ever seen. Dan K Brown from The Fixx...(I think they had another bassist, also).
can't recall who was playing bass when I saw the Little River Band, but he was really good...funny, also, that was to this day the LOUDEST concert I've ever been to.

Was it Nigel something or other used to play in Blondie? I seem to remember Parallel Lines being chock full of bass driven groove...the song Rapture in particular.
