Favourite Clutch Album?

BTW, great job starting a C! thread.
If I see one more thread entitled "what's the best x for x..." - c'mon already.

Best live Clutch moments:
1. Neil & Tim get off their bus to say "hey" to my 2 kids who are wearing Clutch shirts. My youngest's first show.
2. JP stops and chats with my 12 year old (who's also a drummer) at an intersection in Raleigh. I'm watching this from the line to get in the Lincoln Theater. Too cool.
3. Opening a show in Carrboro with Mercury
4. Spacegrass at the Norva
5. Our 1st show, they opened with Gravel Road and we were upstairs watching the pit swell into a frenzy. Killer memory.

This band is just too cool.

I did a search and there's a few threads, but this was designed more specifically to their recorded output rather than Dans work.

Wow, that's a nice list of 'moments'!

My top 5 moments:

Seeing them open with Dragonfly at the Camden Barfly on the ER tour.

Meeting JP and Neil by chance after a show in a pub in Manchester. Seriously, THE coolest 'rock stars' I've ever chanced upon. Not that I've much to compare, but I doubt there are many as grounded and approachable.

Red Horse Rainbow followed by 10001101010 in Manchester on the RH tour. Drool... :)

Shiny Mr Cadillackness (is there a better song title by anyone, ever?) played before Beale St was released supporting Motörhead.

Shaking Dans hand before the show with COC in the bar at the Academy.

And on it could go...yep. Coolest band around.

JP is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. I mean the whole band is cool but JP just seems to vibe with people.

I think meeting the band and sharing a beer was the coolest moment for me...#2 was seeing Soapmakes live. Nasty song!

Why is Clutch not more popular?

It is unfathomable as to why Clutch aren't huge. When you look at the bands who dwarf them in the genre in terms of sales, it is a travesty that they don't seem to be in the league of big hitters.

Having said that, I honestly don't think they mind. I think they are a band that thrive on having a smaller, more intimate hard core following, who get what they do and continue to dig it.

I have a playlist that is just the entire discography on shuffle and I rarely listen to much else on the iPod.

Right now I'm digging Muchas Veces... which is probably the song with some of my most favourite bass work :)

"Pity the mate of queen mantis, so content but so headless..."

"Now I do my drinkin' through bamboo straws, constantly kicking at tarantulas..."

"Holy Diver, where you at? There's a woman over here with a wide brimmed hat..."

"I caused a ruccus with a succubus..."

"Delaware Destroyers, rockin' with Dokken..."

"Man alive, the jive and lyrics, radioactive don't come near it..."

"or maybe up north just past Alaska, you know nothing if this if they ask ya"

"red rover, red rover, Bob Lazar's comin over..."

"the leather soles go shufflin' in, stinkin' of smoke and ten cent gin...now who will toast our noble host who has this morning given up the ghost..."

I could do this all night. For my money, the best lyricist of the last 20 years.

One more for the road:

"Enough about you, let's talk about me and how I singlehandedly redefined the science of radioastronomy, making Nobel prize winners question their notion of reality" (all said in about 2 seconds of course!)

I went to House of Blues Boston and I saw Clutch last night for the 6th time. It was by far the best show I have ever see(thats 100+ shows). They were so tight and Neil was at the top of his game. So engaged with the crowd. Speaking of the crowd they were awesome too. Huge energy and a decent mosh pit that never got out of control, they were having fun but totally respectful to everyone.

Dan Maines played his Lakeland. He was so in the pocket it was crazy. They opened with The Devil & Me and closed with Electric Worry if I recall correctly.

The only song I wasnt impressed with, and I dont know exactly why or who was off, was The Soapmakers. I think they had the guitars too low. Almost like the gain on the Orange amps were down. Awesome show none the less.

CofC was there also and they were pretty good. They are missing the depth in there tone with no Pepper Keenan and the drummers tempo was off all night.

Been a huge C! fan for years now, seen them live about 10 times. Like everyone says it is hard to pick a favorite album, but if you put a gun to my head I would say the reissue of Jam Room. Just picked up the Blast Tyrant vinyl reissue. The packaging alone is worth the price.

favorite moment was a show they did back in 2004 during the Evening with Clutch tour. 45 minute Bakerton Group set followed by 2 90 minute Clutch sets. I was front and center for the entire thing, one of the most awesome things I have ever seen. If any of you watch the little slide show that came with the Live in Flint album, keep an eye out for a little toy Moose in the middle of the stage by the monitors in a couple of pictures. That's Bronco the Clutch Moose which we gave to the band, he now resides in the Clutch rehearsal space...

That 04 show sounds legendary. I would kill to have been there. They don't hit our shores again til Jan, supporting Thin Lizzy. God knows why they took that slot and aren't touring as headliners?

I've been thinking about getting the BT vinyl...consider it now ordered! I've only got the first two and Slow Hole on vinyl.

The Flint show is by far the strongest official live product. I will indeed now look for the moose! Yet I still scratch my head when I listen to Googolplex and wonder who gave the nod to releasing it with that terrible tinny mix...

Btw, does anyone know what Neil sings at the very end of Texan Book Of The Dead?

Im not exactly sure. He throws some of those crazy lyrics in and says them so fast it sounds like hes says.. "bigga lamb dam no ham" ...LOL, the it sounds like he say "we got liquor and drugs again"...or he says "bang on those drums again".

As you can see I have no idea either..LMAO!

Thanks to you guys, I've had nothing but Flint and Robot Hive/Exodus going since yesterday. These guys are a great band for sure and only thing that I can think of as a remote possibility as to why they aren't more popular than they are, and they are, is that they are hard to classify for me. They are very original hard rock music with intelligent lyrics. I'm sure the sheep aren't quite sure what to think when they hear them; it's best to just run back to something more familiar. In the meantime, I'll keep rocking these boys until I can't hear any longer.

I can't disagree, the man can write some of the coolest words. Definitely creative, to say the least.
