Favourite Prog Bassist?

Progressive music often features some amazing and underrated musicians. Who are some of your favourite prog bassists? Looking for more of the underrated guys that you don't often hear about (everyone knows Geddy & Chris Squire). A few of the guys that I love listening to that I never hear about on talkbass include Jonas Reingold (Flower Kings), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Kristoffer Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation), Dave Meros (Spocks Beard). Lots of great more modern players as well. Let's hear your choices!

No Myung love yet?

I'd love to hear someone opine on this - I have to say that my experience is as follows - had heard of him, seen him in ads, etc, but not being a metal guy for the most part, had not heard him. A friend eventually dragged me to see DT, and what I really looked forward to was seeing what was up with Myung. And then I just wondered, could not hear him, and it seemed he was mostly not doing much of interest. The compositions perhaps are not bass-forward or reliant, but I was boggled. Then i tried some albums, and was likewise boggled. Seems a totally serviceable bassist, and of course billions of times more successful than most, but I still don't see it. Clue me in?

Myung has, historically, been buried in the DT mix - many think it’s due to Portnoy (and Petrucci) mixes, but who knows.

I play a lot of Myung stuff and he is stellar, incredibly clean and fast.

Just an amazing player.
