I voted for Marcus Miller, I love his tone and melodic approach to slapping, but a close 2nd would be Louis Johnson. Nobody has come close to his percussive and aggressive slapping style.

Mark King, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten are definitely up there on my list. I love Meshell as well, but it seems to me she’s pretty well abandoned the technique.

Definitely not me, though if I got to hear it, Mr. Clarke, Mark King, and of course Larry Graham and the late Louis Johnson.

To me, the equivalent of metal guitar players where they only pick occasional notes between the hammer-ons and pull-offs. Like any technique, perfect in the right place, but OMG it's been cooked WAY past well done.

Though I had to laugh: When I came to Nashville in the 90's, I was like a lot of guys moving here. I'd go to jams with these guys who'd 'gone country' and rarely even knew any Hank Williams or most country classics. You'd see someone onstage giving them the chords, and I got to admit, I'd never heard anyone slap 'Walkin' After Midnite'. Holy smoke . . . .

Mark King is a beast. Nathan East is one of my overall favorite bassists. And I feel like not having Stuart Zender on the list is a mistake.
