hey guys quick question.

im going to have Don at LDS build me a 15/6/1 and im going to run it with a markbass F1. as you all know, the F1 only put out 350W at 8 ohms. what i would like to know is what would it take to swap an 8 ohm kappalite speaker for a 4 ohm should they ever become available to the general public, new crossover? all new guts? nothing?

i guess if i REALLY needed more juice i could get a power amp on CL and be set, but id rather not have to lug around more gear.

REEAAALLLLYYYYY wish eminence would just make a 4 ohm already!!!!!!!!

Yep. All new guts. You'd need a different crossover, L-Pad and mid to make it happen. Of course, I'm not sure anyone can give you too much of a real educated answer of the complete details since Don doesn't build his 15/6 to fEARful spec in either electronics nor box and port measurement.

It's done!

I won't even have a chance to fire it up until later, but it will get a testing tonight yet! Question...I've read a lot about breaking in a new speaker...necessary? Take it easy on it for a while?

Here's some pics in some horrible lighting...

Without grill (soft velcro all the way around on baffle where the cloth grill frame attaches to eliminate any vibrations from grill). Grill doesn't touch anything but the velcro anywhere.

Thanks. The grill cloth is fantastic material and I can see the blue baffle through it. I thought it would be more like home stereo speaker cloth, but it really is more like a traditional metal grill (with fine holes), but easy to work with and put around the frame. Flexible, but not so much that it won't protect the speakers well. Up close in good light, its like it isn't even there!

OK...couldn't wait. I had to at least make sure it functions (checking to be sure my wiring was correct...also made a short two foot speakon cable for it).

All systems are go. Mid functions as it should as does the woofer. I see I have a lot of tweaking to do, but MY GOD the clarity is unequalled with any other rig I've ever played through...right from the first note I can tell this has such depth and clear, clean notes.

I turned it up slightly and it already had that God of Thunder power (Carvin BX1200 bridged...800 watts into 4 ohms)!!! I'm not even pushing it AT ALL and it just hammers. Nice deep, clean lows and SUPER bright mids and highs. I'll have to tame the highs a bit on this...the 18Sound mid really cuts! But my amp has tons of tonal options with it.

This is going to be killer on my gig tomorrow and I haven't even tweaked it and the 3015LF hasn't even loosened up yet.

HUGE THANKS to everyone who helped me...greenboy, awesome, awesome, awesome design! Leland! You did just great by me. Kudos to you. Thanks to everyone who gave me some tips and guidance to get this wired up.

This is a tremendous cab and I haven't even scratched the surface of its possibilities.

My G-K 1001RB has the potential for 450 watts. I can bury drummer with my 12/6. You should be fine with 350 watts into a 15/6...assuming it's built somewhat close to fEARful specs.

I made a frame out of the leftover 1/2" ply. Double layer of different widths and overlapping at corners.

Yes it is notched above the mid.

The inside edges are tapered in/down so the grill can't flap against it at high volume (if it even were to do that).

Great job man!

Its nice to see cabs in other colours besides boring ol' black.

However, my 15/6 nidacore build will be in black since it will be a duratex jobbie. I can't afford the extra $250 or so for the tolex.

These are great sounding cabs. I'm looking forward to your post gig review.

I'll be using my gk mb500 with mine. I chose the mb500 over my LMII because I found that the markbass does compress at 8 ohms with my 15/6. The mb500 seems to go louder and does not compress at all from what I can tell. For really large gigs I can always just use the mb500 as a pre to my poweramp. However, almost always there is PA support for large shows so I doubt I need the poweramp much. Also the mb500 even when used at 8 ohms tends to be quite loud from my experiences so far with it.

Sundogue, another totally bitchin' fEarful! Great color and finish.

Bassybeenz, FWIW I'm also running a GK 1001rb2 into a 15/6/1. It will do everything I need and then some. Tons of power. To drop the 15/6 to 4 ohms you could ad a 15 sub. A little overkill never hurt anybody.

And now, because spring is in the air, and it will soon be warm enough to build cabs outside, and you can never have too many options, I've buckled down and ordered all the parts to build the 15 sub and a 12/6 with the alpha 6 for a mid.

I can do a temporary installation of the 3015LF and low pass in a TL-606 cab as soon as the parts arrive. It's not ideal, the cab is about 20% smaller than the fEarful sub I'll be building, but the port is larger than the original design to handle the 3015 that's in it now. We'll see how it goes. The 15/6/1 does stack nicely with it.

Thanks to Greenboy. I noticed that the CBG crossovers are organized so that you can print them out one page at a time, with a crossover and parts on each page. That made getting all the stuff from Erse a piece of cake.

Thanks to Duke for helping me with the 3015LF and the 3012LF.

I get to take my 15/6/1 out to play tonight and I'm pretty stoked about that. I've never been happier with my sound.

I recently started playing after a 15 year break and my wife bought me a nice Ibanez 5-string for xmas. I've been lurking around these forums for about a month now and was really inspired to build a cab to replace an old Peavey 212. It's horrible sounding on the E and B strings.

I decided to build the 12/6/1 cube. I like the form factor, although my Bassman 100 head will hang over by 3 inches on either side. I ordered most of the parts from Speakerhardware. There was a slight mix up with the woofer inductors but Leland was very helpful and is correcting the issue. Kudos to Leland and the excellent customer service!

I cut the ply last night. It's still too cold to be working in an unheated garage. I decided to rabbit the edges and dado for the baffle.

Thanks for all the inspiration guys!

If you have time, could you please take some pix of the frame? I'm really interested in your approach, but am not that good at visualizing.
