Moot now, innit?

Me too, but that doesn't keep me from having at least 5 rack preamps and different onboard electronics in each bass. Preamps are the sweet spot for DIY builds for me. I would probably enjoy a Kern clone a lot actually, but I have a few outside-the-box ideas begging for attention at the moment.

If you decide you want to do it, let me know and I'll take an afternoon to open it up and give you some detailed photos and any info I can provide.

The first 12/6 Deluxe kit + flatpack to leave Speaker Hardware is now in the hands of FedEx. It will be in my hands early next week.:hyper:

That assumes, of course, that FedEx doesn't doesn't take it upon themselves to "correct" the address and deliver it to someone else (happened to me with a power amp I bought), or decides not to deliver it for several weeks (a common FedEx practice when delivering to my work address). :spit:

I wish Leland had used UPS.

Another thing I've meant to mention in fEARful threads: if you guys have cabs (or other gear) you no longer use consider donating them to young guys who could use a boost. maybe ask the price of shipping if they are not local to you. There's a lot of kids out there that really would appreciate the encouragement and it'll make you feel great too!

Kind of puts everything in perspective.

Have you been hanging out at Gearslutz? They've got a thread that's thousands of messages long that started with a Grace Design preamp giveaway that has developed into a way of life. It's helped a lot of people in need and created some amazing good will.

I really spend little time on forums other than the AMP section right here. But it's cool when people look toward others.

Midrange 6nd board and a lowpass. Standoffs and screws are included.

Hookup is exactly as described earlier. They're both the same board, just one is modified to accommodate the midrange components. So they're both marked W+ and W-. But the one with the big iron coil is for the woofer. You parallel to the boards from the amp in on the speakons.

I finally got my parts late this afternoon (and too late to do anything with them until tomorrow)...

At the risk of sounding really stupid...both crossover boards have big coils...which one is for the woofer?

I'm assuming this one is the one with the "big iron coil" (for the woofer)...

And this one is for the mid range?

Sorry...couldn't find a dummy icon.

You got it.

The small air coil is for the mid...another tip off is the resistors are for the L-pad on the mid.

Sunny dog - if the electronics jamb you up, put 'em in the car and bring them to Madison. I'll sort it out.

That offer stands for ay TB'r within driving range. I'll open that up to tech work for those in need around here.

Jim

The rest is pretty straight forward as long as I know which one is which. I'm no ace at electronics, but I can solder and this isn't too much for me to screw up. :D

Thanks though. The TB community (and the fEARful group in particular) are mighty helpful.

Thanks again guys.

I have national account status with Fedex through my other business. Great rates. If there's a problem let me know. They take pretty good care of me when I call. With about 3k stores using that contract, Fedex pays attention.

Hope you like it, and really hope I got the baffle the right direction.

Find out first. Especially with tube power amps. Without tone stacks they are already ahead of the game. Big transformers win too. Realize that with a standard-tuned bass this stuff is not as apparent, and that my time with a couple of tube heads and a fEARful have been positive, though for non-biamping I lean toward say a Reeves or that Peavey VB-3 because I want less sag. With say a 100 watt guitar amp it's a marvelous sound - but it ain't my sound because the very lowest content tends to collapse or mud out too early.

The Reeve look nice, but they are pricey. The Peavey VB-3 looks nice as well.

As far as solid state amps go for bi-amping the woofers, seems the better choices are the Crown Drivecore XLS 2500 or the Peavey IPR DSP 3000?

I didn't mean to dis you, Leland. My problem is with FedEx. I've had so many problems with FedEx deliveries that I no longer allow anyone at work to use them for outgoing.

Hope you like it, and really hope I got the baffle the right direction.

I have confidence in you, sir. (Even if the baffle is wrong, I'll just put it together inside out.)

Over many decades I've had a little better luck with FedEx, myself. I guess it depends on a local branch's unwritten policies, and its drivers. At one time when I was receiving a fair amount of stuff for resale at my home in Seattle, and in spite of it being a busy route, my UPS lady was incredible about honoring the "sig only" stuff... where at other times and places I have found packages out in the rain, sometimes not even all the way up on the porch.

Regarding FedEx and UPS:

I always have great success with FedEx, period. I have an account with discounted rates through my professional trade association, so I do it all at my desk, and just drop it off at a FedEx/Kinkos. Even if one does not have access to a group rate, I suggest opening your own personal account so you can prepare your shipment and print your labels at home.

As far as UPS goes, they just can't help themselves. EVERY TIME the driver delivers a parcel, he drops it on my floor. EVERY TIME!! Right now, I've a Mesa/Boogie amp in for repair because the dude dropped it at my feet when he delivered it to me after I bought it on eBay. The seller is paying to get it fixed, but what a PITA. Also, if you rely on bringing an item to a UPS Store, you will get jacked on the rates. Those are independently owned and operated, usually in association with some other sort of place like a Mail Boxes, or other. As a result, the local owner is free to mark up published UPS rates as much as they feel is appropriate for their overhead.

My observations come from being in business for over ten years.

UPS is a disaster for me as well, but at least the drivers make it to your door and ring the bell. I've had problems with them not delivering and lying about it, and doing so repeatedly. Or getting fake signatures to leave stuff.

But back to the cabinets.

I've had issues with both, but really...human beings are involved here. One delivery service has no advantage over the other given that honest, hard working and caring employees work for both just as much as workers who are dishonest, lazy, or uncaring and either type could be having a bad day where delivering our packages are the least of their concerns. It's just a reflection of life in general.

But yeah, back to the cabs...

I have the speakons, crossover and mid installed and everything is wired up. I just need to mount the 3015LF, put the grill cloth on the frame and I'll be ready to test this beast out sometime today yet! :hyper:

Pics to follow. :D
