Bumping my question, below. Which picture do I use as an assembly guide for the mid xover? The two assemblies are different. (lpad)

I'm confused (like that's new...). The pic of the 6NM xover on Speakerhardware shows a different Lpad assembly. NOTE: The bottom two resistors. Which guide should I use for assembly?

Why don't you ping Leland, since they're from his kit? Its possible that they're both right, depending upon the values of the resistors. I can't really see what the values are in the second picture.

Greetings Talkbass-ians,

Last weekend I received the fEARful 15/6/1 that Ron Anchak built for me. This cab is built like a tank, solid. It sounds fantastic with the TC Electronics RH750. Ron did a fantastic job on the build and the attention to the details is very apparent. This thing is loud and clear. It will get as loud as I want it without taxing the amp. If someone is thinking about having a fEARful cab built rather than build their own, I can definitely recommend Ron. He was great to work with, talked to me about how I wanted things (handles, grill, corners, baffle orientation, etc), and is upfront and overall a great guy.

He's building another 15/6/1 cab for me with opposite baffle orientation if I ever wanted to use them together. Not sure I will need to as one cab is plenty for what I do. I'm getting the second one so I don't have to schlep cabs back and forth between Vegas and SoCal. But if I ever do need to use them together, the mirrored baffle will allow me to invert and stack.

That's a great looking fEARful! Ron does awesome work. Those pics are great, especially the first one. It's just awesome. I'm building a 15/6/1 myself and opted for the same tweet level control and large control plate. The tweet control will fit on the control plate, so that's where mine's going.

Side note: The black bass on the right...what is that?

Yes, can definitely put the tweet control on the control plate. When talking to Ron, we decided to put it on the side so that if during a gig had to adjust, one wouldn't need to go around back to adjust. I like how he recessed the tweet control to keep things flush.

The black bass is the Carvin B40. I had it built with the 'black and chrome' motif to match my Sunday-driver that is all black with chrome wheels. :-) Which was also the motif of my first Harley 18 years ago. Something about black and chrome ... I like!

Very nice looking cab!

I like too! Nice bass.

I got a lot done with my build today. Cab is ready for Duratex! Link in sig. Also cleaned up my wiki page. Put dividing lines between the days (didn't know you could do that) so it's a bit easier to read.

Yes, I really like the way the bass looks. Even better I really like the way it plays and sounds. Playability it's my best bass. Toss up on which tone is my favorite, the Yamaha or the Carvin. They are different. Yamaha more vintage, the Carvin more modern. That being said, I can EQ a nice vintage sound out of the Carvin with ease.

Great wiki documenting the progress of your build. If I decide on a 12/6/1 I may try to build. But I travel a lot so it would be one of those projects that takes a fair bit of time for me. The 15/6/1 from Ron was the right thing to do for me at this point.

Greenboy mentions on site he'll add more damping material to inside a cab to "knock back a littlle reflectivity." can someone explain this too me? Does this mean he does adds damping material if the cab soumds too boomy?

At higher volumes my 15/6/1 start to sound a almost a little distorted (with my markbass f500 and gain and vol halfway). It super loud. So i cant discern which of the drivers are distorting.

I guess im trying to figure out if its the head, drivers or cab itself. Any ideas on how i can fix or troubleshoot this?

Sry for the typos. This was all typed on my iphone.

The 15/6/1 is a 8-ohm cab. What does your F500 put out at 8 ohms? I'm betting it's not even close to what a 15/6/1 can take. Possibly you are clipping the power amp part of your amp, hence the distortion. The only way to test this would be to take the line out/FX out from your amp and run it into a big power amp that puts out say twice the wattage your f500 does at 8 ohms and crank it up.

Also, are you sure the noise you're hearing is coming from one of the drivers? Possibly your handles, jackplate or grill is rattling? "Noises" are the most difficult things to track down sometimes. I'm hoping I don't have any at all when my build is through!

I'd bet money its your amp. I have used my LMII with my 8 ohm fARful (LDS) and I definitely reached limitations of the amp while with my BX1500 (900w at 8 ohms) its always been smooth sailing.

Thanks for the help guys.

I think i have gotten rid of most of the rattles. So i guess next I should rule out the head. I jist love having a micro amp that can fit in my gig bag.

Maybe i need an tc rh750? Has anyone has issues with this head and their fearful?

Maybe knock the gain down from 1/2 to 1/3 or so to see if you are getting any input clip that is being amplified and then presented clearly from the fEARful. On my RH750 I rode the input very close to clip when I used them on a TC RS212.

With the fEARful I pull the gain back a bit and use more master volume. TC says bring input to clip then back off slightly. With the fEARful I bring input to clip then back off a little more than slightly and have no distortion problems at higher volumes.

I noticed that when using my Yamaha bass with the fEARful cab and the RH750 input slightly off clip I would get slight input distortion. Especially when digging in on the Yamaha. Not so much with the Fender and the Carvin. The Yamaha has really growly pickups (I like). In other cabs I didn't notice any input distortion. With the fEARful everything was presented clearly. I noticed a wee bit of input distortion with gain close to clip when digging in but when I backed off the gain slightly more on the RH750, everything clear as a bell.

All that being said, I've only taken the TC RH750 and fEARful 15/6/1 to 120db at 3 feet (using about 165 watts of power at 8 ohms). Still have plenty left in the amp to go so I haven't gotten to the point where I have stressed the amp to clip.

EDIT: From rereading some of the above posts, and you describing the volume as super loud, it may be that you are clipping your amp rather than the input.

Scogman - thanks for the help!

Ill trt pulling back the gain a bit and using the master.

So i guess it could be preamp distortion OR power amp distortion? Never really thought about it that way. Totallyakes sense though.

Again, sorry for the typos. Small phone, big thumbs.
