fEARful 15/6 Pictoral!

Did I post a nEarful? I was trying to avoid that. Which one is it?

One of the great things about this design is that it was not rushed out the door to meet the demands of some bean counters. Its been years in the making, and any mods made to the design have only been done after careful consideration. As opposed to an alteration on a build based on a single phone call to a builder where it appears to have been "I don't know what effect it will have on the sound, but I guess that makes sense and it looks better" kind of thing.

And actually, my posting is a bit of a simplification. There's more going on than just a few revisions. If you poke through the past threads, you can see some drift in the plans-to-cab process. Some of the cabs have been 'editorialized' by their makers, with driver spacing not quite following the plans. I'm guessing some of that's been done by those who didn't read carefully (like those who have their 15's mounted geometrically as opposed to the spec) or have dropped their tweeter add-ons in a convenient location rather than where 'x marks the spot' on the plans. So, while there may be many fEARfuls in the line up, many of them are like snowflakes. ;)

I asked Don to follow the plans.

The differences I can tell are:
-driver placement/spacing
-port/internal volume probably slightly smaller due to 3/4" plywood
-haven't checked the crossover yet, i asked for GB xover. but it has a variable Lpad. so i dunno. also oddly, the horn attenuator also affects the mid.

it's still a great cab and probably 85% of what a fEarful is...

Well, as to the nEarfuls that are already up I won't be deleting them from my OP. That just seems a little crass. However, I won't be adding any either.

Still hoping to keep this thread fEARful as much as I can without being a tyrant about it.

Clever choice of words? I think so! :cool:

Hey Guys,

I noticed the fEARful part 12 thread is almost done and ready for 13 so I culled what I could and found the latest 15/6 builds to post.

As a reminder this thread is dedicated to fEARful 15/6 cabs only. Please consider starting a new thread for cabs that do not fit this description.

Can someone please explain to me why fEARful cabinets are so popular/relevant?

I mean, I don't want to sound like a stick in the mud or anything, but what advantages would a fEARful 15/6 or 15sub (as in a fEARful model with just a 15) perform against a standard 115 cabinet from say GK or ampeg, or Mesa?

I *think* the main advantage is that you buy the plans and build the cab yourself (from my understanding), so you get customizeability, but is there something inherently superior in the designs themselves?
