Hi
I'm making a Fearful 12/6 cab.
I can't seem to find an answer if i should dampen the midbox, fill it with something or just leave it empty? The speaker is an ordinary alpha 6.

One misses the greenboy forum now when i finally build a cab.

You want to stuff the mid chamber just shy of actually touching the back of the mid driver.

Also speaker hardware suggests acoustic foam in the cabinet. Is felt a viable option?

I think so, I've used acoustic felt successfully for various DIY cab applications. I just used polyester batt from WalMart in my 12/6 build though. Lots of guys use the recycled denim stuff too.

Actual felt would be a pricey endeavor. Just hit Walmart and get a foam mattress topper or poly batting as Passinwind suggested. If you have a Jo-Ann fabrics near, they'll have that too. Some HD or Lowes stock the denim stuff.

I stuffed mine with some poly fill I got somewhere. Sounds great.

12/6 is such a great mix for a bass cabinet. Mine is a lowly homebrew mod of an Avatar 112, but it sounds fantastic too.

I used doubled up pieces from a old mattress pad in my BFM build.

Here's my pair. I had the bottom one built and I built the reverse-baffle one on top. I usually only use my home-built one for most gigs and add the really nice one for outdoors, festivals, or big gigs. They sound awesome together.

Bought one used but built pretty poorly out of osb-wood in a bright color...

For what it's worth, I have 2 old 410 cabs. I went to refurb one, pulled the old dampening mat out and replaced it. It was laced with mouse turds and nastiness. When I pulled the speakers out of the 2nd one, I was surprised to find the mat gone. I was even more surprised to find no noticeable difference in the sound of either cab. Both cabs are ported, same maker/model, sturdy plywood. I'm sure others have different experiences but, it may not be neccessary to have any sound dampening material.

I'm reusing speakers and rebuilding the crossover from the used cab.

Previous builder used a foil inductor in the bass filter = heavy. I don't mind that since i have a genzler bass array 1x10 for small gigs.

It weighs almost as much as the 12 inch speaker

At first test the midrange doesn't seem to work. Have I done something wrong?

Looks right. Definitely spent some money on that foil inductor!
Can you bypass the xover and just hook the mid up? See if it has sound? If it's easier you could hook it up to the woofer output to test.

Yes beats me why previousmade that choice for inductor.

Anyway hooked everything up.
Sounds good. I just didn't realise how much of an effect having the speakers in the box made . The sound difference is huge!!

Now my new problem is one of the new handles rattles like crazy..

Yep, fEARfuls will rattle anything that is even sort of loose.
I ran a small bead of caulk under the handle flange before I tightened it down.
If you get enough to squeeze out on the outside, wipe it off with a wet rag before it dries.
