Fearful cabs: Simple answers-Amps thread

I dunno, I find that through a good PA my sound winds up sounding a lot like my DI, which is what my cab sounds like. :)

Regarding recording: I am curious as to what the ratio is of bass recordings done bass -> preamp -> board vs. bass -> speakers -> mic. I'm pretty sure it's in the 10-1 range, but who knows.
I worked with a certain producer/engineer for ten years who was almost always insistent on me using his P Bass, going direct into (Neve) console. Then, when my own band cut our album, I insisted on micing my G-K 800RB combined with DI.
From then on, before every session, he would call and remind me to bring my amp, LOL! :p

All that aside, one of the appealing factors of the fEarful design is it's relatively uncolored, natural sound, similar to studio monitors. With a cab like that, you can EQ for tone, and/or add a pedal such as the VT for character. I would also imagine that it would lend itself well to modeling, although I've never modeled myself.

No, they won't - but same value means a lot more than just "same capacitance".

If it is similar capacitance, similar ESR, and relatively similar in all specs - I doubt you'll be able to tell a difference.
yeah, you should match equivalent series resistance,
farads, voltage rating AND get the same type. Tants have a specific sound that some find objectionable, but not Leo Fender as he used them in old Musicman basses. So if a parts list calls for a metalized poly cap, get a metalized poly cap. I like to think the Panasonic FC caps sound more solid than the very similar looking knockoffs, but it could just be my wallet talking there.
There is the other end of cheaping out on parts. If I spend my spare time building something, cursing and yelling at my workbench when I screw up and have to re-do a bit. I like to get the best parts I can budget for, so I dont have to question the parts, just my ability to put them together right!
Also make sure you dont BS on the resistors. 4 parallel 50w resistors handle 200w. 1 50w resistor handles 50w.

The VT Bass I've heard so far some folks are not thrilled with; its speaker emulation apparently makes it sound weird with the cab's voicing, at least that's my best guess for what was said in the LDS thread. I imagine it's still a matter of taste.
