Fearful cabs: Simple answers-Amps thread

I dunno, I've read the wiki. two or three times. And spent a LOT of time reading parts of the various threads. I still have lot's of Qs.

I appreciate all the input. I'm sure if I spent more time, I'd find all I need, but it's really not well organized to the point where somebody can easily, w/o spending a lot of time searching and reading various disjointed threads and links, can build one. I could be wrong of course, YMMV. I'm sure there are guys who had zero issues building their Fearful and found everything they needed quickly and easily. If I'm missing something, lemme know.

I've built a bunch of model airplanes from scratch, and those guys know how to create a build guide/plan. ;) No offense intended to anybody, I'm just pointing out what I see as an area where the Fearful build guide/ and plans could be improved. Simple, to the point PDFs could be created to help first time builders. Various PDFs for the different plans, one build guide, and another PDF for crossovers, equipment, parts etc. That would be awesome.

I just visited the wiki again and I'm like ???????

I've visited some of the links posted on the wiki and I'm like ?????????

Thanks for all the help though people, I'm probably going to build one of these. I'm trying to make up my mind as to if I want to try and cut the plywood or have a TBr do it for me. The rest sounds like cake (or pie?).

Greenboy...the designer of the fEarful...didn't get paid one red cent to make that plan. The model airplane kit designers that you build from are paid to make better directions than the competitors, ergo, they make easy-to-follow plans.

The fEarful plans are just sketches and theory. It's up to you to copy down the measurements and figure out how much plywood you'll need...but chances are, even that's already been done by someone, pro bono.

Sure, the fEarful threads are over-bloated (on it's fifth 1,000 post thread, IIRC) and sure they need a clearing house of information. Sounds like a plan. I nominate you. ;)

Yep... from the wiki here's a link to 3d models and cut lists for both 4x8' and 5x5' sheets:

Its so simple even a glue sniffing caveman could do it. :hyper:

Or be like me and pay LowDownSound or Vlad335 to make the box for ya.

I've ordered the speakers, and a TBer is cutting the wood. I went to the wiki, and began looking at the crossover components. Is there any reason not to buy the small stuff from a local electronics shop? Some of the specified caps seem very expensive and look like boutique "audiphile" grade stuff. I mean, a cap is a cap and a resistor is pretty much a resistor right?

I hate having to order from a half dozen shops and pay all that shipping to gather small parts for a project. (I'm cheap)

I'm all for quality. Just hesitant to order 5 $.30 caps for $5 each. ;)

I've got this issue in my line of work as well. I ordered an OEM part, the company charged me $225 plus shipping. I found the SAME part for $20 by doing a little research. Grrrrr.

If you are building from Greenboy's designs, then I would not deviate from the listed item unless you know enough about the parts to make an informed decision. These parts are likely expensive because they are quality, as Greenboy does not make a habit of cutting corners in his design.

Remember, Quality only hurts once.

also, it's 60 for the do it yourself before shipping or 35 for a generic Eminence plus shipping

The capacitors are far from 'lil caps...they're quite large and will see a fair amount power. As will the resistors...if you want to cheap out on the parts, go ahead, but who knows how close to spec you're going to get and how long they last once the juice starts flowing through them.
