Build Update:

Ron has one of my cabs done (minus the grill) and the other will be going off to paint with some other cabs he is building.

Hopefully my two 15/6/1s will be done within the next 2 weeks!

Talked to greenboy yesterday. He got me back to thinking about the 1212/6 vs 15/6 again (I was pretty set on the 15/6). Since I'm going AoN, there is a $100 diff, which won't sway me one way or the other. They should sound and "feel" the same. The spec sheet from AoN says the weight difference is 10lbs which is minimal, in my eyes. The 1212/6 will fit my current car, so that isn't a huge issue. However, other potential transport issues have me eyeballing the form-factor. On the plus side, the wheels and extra height of the 1212/6 make transport by rolling easier than carrying, though that issue can be worked around for a $20 hand cart. The exta 6" height on the 1212/6 also puts the head volume/eq close to hand level when standing. The extra height also puts sound closer to the ears, particularly the mid driver. However, the extra size could make it harder to lift to get in the trunk of my car, or any other moving requiring me to lift. I also get the sense the 15/6 would be plenty loud for about anything I would do, and the volume output isn't night and day different between the two. While a little more power is nice, I don't need to be hauling a gun to a knife fight, and I do live in an apartment where I need to keep the level reasonable.

Anything else I'm missing in my consideration? Any one been on the fence and care to share the deal maker/breaker for them?

It sounds like the 12/12/6 fits your needs better. If you never plan on expanding on that setup than go for it. The ability to put tilt wheels on a 12/12/6 will certainly make hauling in easier.

I personally went with two 15/6/1s as I wanted the ability of leaving 1 cab at a practice space and another at my house.

I'd like to pose a question:

Have you guys ever had a gig where you think a 12/6 + 12 sub with sufficient wattage wouldn't be enough volume?

My band doesn't work at war volume, but I've supplied my pair of 12/6 cabs as backline at a couple of multi-band benefit shows. Powered with my GK 1001RB II (700 watt potential) they easily kept up with 2 half stacks in very loud bands w/o PA support.

That poll is missing at least 6 spec-built cabs and a couple of nEARfuls, just within 5 miles of where I live. ;)

It also pre-dates all the "authorized builders" and the ever quickening pace of DIY building that's been going on this year. I would guess that in the 2011 calendar year, the overall number of fEARfuls in the world probably tripled or quadrupled. :)

That's good to hear. My thought is that the 12/6/1 should be able to cover the majority of gigs and I can add the sub when needed.

If it were me, I would go with the 15/6. I own a AoN 15/6 and its a loud cab. I have never had a problem hearing it and it is very portable. If you dont need huge volume the 15/6 will do nicely. Heck it even does huge volume well. On those rare occasions when things get really crazy I bring along my 12/6 as well.

On a day to day basis, though, the portability of the 15/6 versus the 1212/6 makes it much more appealing to me.

to answer that depends on the bassist/band in question, personally i would think that would be plenty, others feel a single 15/6 is more than enough, i use a 2 x 15 fearful setup that has never run out on me, always enough, then theres a dual 151566 rig in use.

i'd be very surprised to hear that a 12/6 (18sound mid) with 12 sub, with sufficient watts, would not be enough for anyone

You have to remember too that with fEARful, it's not all about volume. When you can actually HEAR yourself, full, clean, and clear from everywhere in the room, volume suddenly doesn't seem quite so important. With enough juice to run the cab to it's limits, you will be very loud, but either way, it's an entirely different experience than what most people are used to.
