Fearful Part 14: one better than 13!

It's quite possible that your cab was built before the authorized builders era. If so, no royalties are due and I retract my comment.

The problem stems from the early days of the fEARful phenom, when Don would agree to build to spec, then deliver a compromised product.

We all KNOW that Don has built cabs for years. We all KNOW that GB started by releasing free plans. We all KNOW that GB's business has evolved, quite recently I might add, into a for profit venture and we all KNOW that as of a couple of weeks ago, GB finally made his first CU disclosure. We all KNOW there were many years worth of cabs built by cab makers with similar specifications. We also KNOW that there is no patent and that to demand royalties ex post facto, well, that ship sailed a few years back. Finally, we all KNOW that Don built similar but not carbon copy cabinets that incorporated his own design elements and practical experience in building.

I see no need to jump on anyone for having had any kind of cab made in the past. By anyone. So give it a break. If not, we can just conclude that the discussions are becoming redundant and worse, ill-mannered.

I agree entirely, but at the same time, those aren't fEARfuls if they don't follow the design. :( I don't think anyone was trying to give anyone a hard time, and there are still people out there who don't know.

I find that remarkable in light of 14,000 + posts and 800,000 + views in this series alone.

If the point of these threads is to point that out, I think that has been accomplished, wouldn't you agree?

You would think, and I would think it had been accomplished...but then people wouldn't post non-fEARful cabs in a fEARful thread. The poster even says that he didn't know of anything about this, and he even owns a set of the speakers.

I wasn't placing blame, or trying to start anything, but at the same time, anyone who isn't up on things, either new or otherwise checking out this thread might not know the difference. I was trying to politely as possible point out that it wasn't.

No problem, I will ignore all the the /!\ 's I got then since apparently the poster, in his ignorance, transgressed some undefined boundary which apparently needed to be redressed.

Let's move on then, I am sure we all have nice things to say about all our fearful love with getting into bashing pre-existing competitive products.

I applaud your comments Thor...and through reading fEARful posts for the past 6 months or so, I've decided to NOT purchase a fEARful because of the arrogant nature of certain owners and the lack of proper build continuity among different "authorized" builders...

Too much for me...

I'm sure the cabs are wonderful but I've heard enough of the "attitude"

Peace...

Wrong, Thor. Well before I ever had a "franchise" I contacted David Wilson and said it was possible that soon I would have a mild commercial venture. And I contacted him again when it was just about to start. And I followed what he wrote back to me, with consideration given that I was still supporting DIYers.

Surely this comment was not necessary. Unless you know the full scope of what has gone on behind the scenes for the entire timeframe of several years you cannot accurately judge what's what. Even if one does know, it's a perilous uncomfortable slope. As such, better to not go there.

See what you wrote, and think whether it adds to the perception of peace.

I'm interested in this 'build continuity among different "Authorized" builders. Please explain what you mean?

I'm also not sure how it's arrogance to point out that a cabinet isn't a specific design. Either it follows the plans or it doesn't? Sort of like if someone posted a 4x10 Mesa cab in a thread about Ampegs. I'm sure at some point someone might say 'er...that's not an Ampeg'.

Greebnboy...

I admire YOUR work and insight into cabinet building and I'm sure that you have made a significant contribution to the bassists of the world. I mean that sincerely...

My comment was not directed at you in any way...YOU are the original designer and I would be every bit as frustrated as you

I am just disgusted by the "my stuff is better than your stuff" attitude that many (not all) of your followers seem to project...IMO

BurningSkies is a GREAT guy and has been very patient with me in trying to learn more...I was initially excited to join your forum as BurningSkies recommended, so that I might be able to locate someone close by my location so that I might be able to HEAR them...my post was essentially ignored...so, I gave up on "the community" and eventually on the product

But through no fault of yours

I tried to look through the recent posts to see if anyone else brought it up but... Parts Express and Speaker Hardware have some really great pricing on the 3012LF and 3015LF right now.

Just an FYI if you are thinking about pulling the trigger on a fEARful. I did :)

I think in the midst of things, this post got glossed over. I checked out the pricing at Parts Express, and I'm thinking of building either a 15sub or another 15/6.

Some of that issue may just be that there aren't thousands of these cabs out there...just a number in the hundreds. Many complete them then 'disconnect' once they have theirs.

I don't think anyone is trying to close anyone out of the community or hold back, in fact, as you know we tend to be a vocal bunch in sharing our love of these cabs. :)

To the same extent though, I didn't get to try a Mesa 400+ before I bought it because I couldn't find one nearby, nor at the time a Markbass LMII, since they were 'fresh off the boat' at that time. I bought my Dingwall sight-unseen for those reasons too. I've driven my basses to Boston to allow people to try them out, I've also had people do 5 hour round trips to try out my stuff.

I understand your frustration, but don't give up on a great design. I didn't buy one, but without ever hearing one I recently built a 15/6/1 using a cut kit from speakerhardware.com . I was able to do this despite having no build experience and not being a very handy guy. So far, I strongly feel mine is the best bass speaker I have ever played through, and I've tried a lot of high-end stuff. I highly recommend building one yourself. I'm going to build a second one soon!

And BurningSkies is right, the community is deceptively small. If you find yourself in the LA area, come on by and try mine out. I don't know if there are any owners in New Jersey.

reggaeman, I don't think anyone is trying to slam you or anything. I just think many have issues with certain companies profiting from the fEARful design while not having an agreement as an authorized builder. Then they take some liberties with the design and it becomes what most would call a nEARful cab. Very close, but not to spec.

Those are some very nice looking cabs, though.

Thanks Bardley. So as everyone with knowledge pointed out, I have "nearfuls". I cant attest as to the cab dimensions but I know they are using the 3015LFs and 18 sound 6nd410 speakers and the 15/6 alone with the little mark 3 is earth shattering. With the added 15 it takes it to an entirely new level. I got a comment at one gig from a person "I was looking/hearing your bass cab compared to the ampeg 8x10s it was sitting next to and Wow!!!" They were blown away at how it compared to the Ampeg in a much smaller package.
