Fearful thread part 15 (/6?)

IMG_1162.jpg

Finally done with Barry Audio aluminum grill. This grill is sturdy!

We did our annual city wide 4th of July gig in Bettendorf Iowa today . It was 100 degrees but we had a breeze so none of us passed out from the heat . Went great , one of our guitar players 14 year old daugter sat in for her first big stage gig playing bass , she did very well and looked cute too . This was my second gig with the fEARful stack and it didn't disapoint , great great tone and low end , I love it . Here's a couple of before the gig pics .

Holmebass . Yes , drill a small pilot hole first . Then you can either paint the head of the sheet metal screw or use a black marker to make it match the grill .

Who built your cabs? I just borrowed a 15/6 and im pretty sure im hooked.

Just a note for those who want to get a slightly more traditional sound out of your fEARful, or just don't care for the default voicing.

If you want a somewhat more mid-focused sound (a bit more like a sealed cabinet), you might try the trick of [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. I guess it has the same basic effect as extending the shelf, but it's not permanent.

I just jury-rigged this on my cabinet, and so far I'm really enjoying the difference.

The first time I toured with a 15/6 and 15sub it was kinda shocking...blocked BOTH ports on the sub, then after a few days of getting used to it, just blocked one port...That was a lot of low end :)

I kinda had a problem with the low end on the cab I was borrowing. It was hard to find the sweet spot with the low end. It seemed like it was too much or not enough. I'm still kicking myself for not bringing a couple more basses, but it would of been overkill :) I was sounding great at home it was a little harder to dial it in at the venue i played at on friday. It definitely kicked my other small gigging cabs butt and held its own tone wise against my '73 flat back Ampeg. Like I said on the GB forum, still not sure if it's totally the cab I need but their isn't much else to choose from for what the 15/6 is capable of. I really think that crossover with that mid driver is key. Is it public knowledge what freq the cabs cross over at? And you guys that have the tweeters in yours, my lord why ;)

Is this a serious question?

If so... the tweeter is used to produce output above 5k Hz.

This not required for most bass styles - but the fEARful is musical instrument cab also suitable for synth, eDrums, et cetra - and in those formats the tweet is useful. Also some super slap happy round wound bass pluckers actually have some meaningful content way up there.

The mid kicks in around 7-800Hz . The tweeters in the fEARfuls don't start till about 6000Hz or so and don't have the shrill tweeter clank as much as a standard bass cab . I don't have a tweeter in mine and like it the way it is without . I play in the band Spike and we are on a bit of a vacation from playing and practicing so if you want to borrow my 15/6 or even the 15/6 and my sub for a gig to try with your SVT you are welcome . Just let me know .

Best to check greenboy's forum for the latest info, but if I remember correctly from the earliest design stages, the low/mid filters in the CBG crossovers are asymetrical. There's some overlap between the drivers.

Also, I think the HF crossover point was recently changed for at least some of the CBG crossovers.

The Alpha mid in my 12/6 cabs does just fine for my tatses. It's been a couple years since I looked into it, but I think the Alpha rolls off a little lower than the 18Sound. (5K vs. 6K?)

The only time I've wished I had a tweeter was when using one for electronic drums. The cymbals were dull.

The thing to me about a great compression driver like an ASD1001 or better still an XD125, is they are so smooth and subtle...for normal bass playing you really even notice they're there...I always put 'em in my personal cabs in case I want to use 'em for monitors, keys, edrums, etc...I can't come up with a good reason not to have one :)

My horn has a sight hiss while it's on. VERY slight but it's there. Is that an indication it's hooked up wrong?

That Mesa looks mighty fine on that fEARful. End of the World doom flaying fine.

Oooof. And guys. Holy ****. My Glockenklang Blue Soul came in. Woof. That thing paired up with my Status and on top of my 15/6/1 is bliss. Pure bliss.
