My 5 string Rev is like a ballsier vintagey Jazz with a B string.
Just here to help...here's an aluminum 5L in "Lava Swirl:'
Not a 5L, but a good example of one of Reverend's other crazy finishes called "bugeye:''
Those are some crazy basses. I'm kinda diggin' 'em.

I don't agree with that.
They went out of production because they couldn't sell enough to justify production cost to profit ratios.
They don't sell here in classfieds particularly well either.
Joe Naylor consistently refutes that plans exist to make more either offshore or in the USA.

Yep, he came over yesterday and picked it up. It killed me to part with that one. P bass, J neck, Reverend pickup. But, his assurance that he'd buy it allowed me to jump on the Reverend P/J. And, he lives two miles away, so I can always go visit the P-bass. He's setting it up with those super-heavy La Bella Jamerson flats, should be pretty cool.
TSanders, congratulations! You're in for a treat. I used to own the same model but in silver. It will be a nice counter to your Ernie Ball basses (assuming those are still in your arsenal). The series setting sounded the best I thought in a band setting - thick, full, clean and clear low end. The parallel setting was good for a solo if needed. B-string was awesome as well. These basses are really about producing a vintage like tone. As others have indicated, flats would be really cool to try out on the Reverend. Get ready for some puzzling looks and questions from the audience or others. Everytime I played my reverend at a gig, people would always come up and ask "what is that?".

+1 to Chef's comment about flats. The 5L is one of the few basses that I prefer to string with flats. The tone is just so sweet. Some day I'd love to have another 5L so I could have one strung with rounds, too.
FWIW, I'm headed back home to Georgia during the last week of this month, and I'm sending the Dawgfish to a friend so I'll have something to play while I'm there. Good to see that Georgia is stocked with plenty of fish these days.

I was not sure I was going to like the finish. But, in person it is even way nicer. The maple has some really nice quilt to it as well. The '59 burst with spalt and ebony board works well. Absoluately love the tone of the bass!
Here's a couple snaps to get this back on a Reverend track:
Looks aside, these are pretty unique basses.
The two J pickups are setup with vol and tone controls. The miniswitch selects neck only, or, both parallel, and both series...making one big-a**humbucker out of them.
Semihollow contruction; a 6" wide mahogany block with steel sustain bar in the middle; hollow sides. Most are formica top and back, tho some are aluminum.
The string spacing is a tad narrow but very comfortable. The necks are a thing of beauty: not too wide, not too deep, and the edges and fret ends are nicely rolled to make them feel like they've been played in for about 20 years...

NICE. I have a fretted MIM J in that same Midnight Blue...has a really powerful low end....I added a black pearloid PG and covers:
You don't see a lot of the Midnight Blue instruments.
It is a cool color that I have not seen on a lot Jazzes - it looks purple in some light and blue in others. Chicks love this color - I am thinking of adding the White Pearloid PG.

I'm Digging all the Reverends in this thread & congrats to all the new bass owners.
here's my Rev (Purchased from fellow TB'er Daktari) top 5 in my rotation.
If Reverend were to build basses again I would buy one for sure.
That being said, I passed on buying one when they were making them (Idiot!!)
& I don't see a "re-issue" happening.
If you can snag a Reverend, I recommend you keep it!
