I like the neck on that. I have the Affinity active which has the laurel finger board. That's also 70's spacing. The CV looks to have active passive switching which the Affinity doesn't. The CV looks ripe to drop a Sadwosky Preamp in.

Master Tone - does that indicate that it still works when the active is turned on?

If they weigh under 10 lbs they may actually be interesting. 
I was excited when I saw these were announced. I was even more excited when I saw that lovely Mocha finish. Talk about GAS.

Maybe the woodwork will be as good as the old CVs but those tuners are junk… the old CVs had excellent tuners. I own two of them to prove it. No cast pot metal parts on the old tuners.. all machined. Buttons are pinned and peened, and excellent nickel plating

When I go try some Fender and Squire basses in stores, the Squire ones shine more often than the Fender sound wise, more specifically jazz basses.
Agree with you, I have 2 extra machines head set in my drawer. Both are nickel coated instead early chrome version.

Me too. I think the Squiers are as good or better than their expensive Fender siblings. And I plan to paint my headstocks anyway, so I don't give a rip about the stupid logo anyway.
Yes, always plan for painting the headstocks. Just looks so good.
I wonder how the Alnico wide range humbucker will compare to the original with the CuNiFe ones?
I wonder if that is similar to the Knob of Doom™ on the Squier VM Jag Specials from the 2010s?
I still have mine, and that bass boost pot is either totally off, or on 11.
