Feeling cancelled?

I have said to move on.... Not sure I said to let others take advantage. In fact I didn't. I do believe its stupid that friends/Musicians can't get along because of their views in politics. That I do believe. I also told him to move on. The band did as he should.
Calling it stupid assumes that both parties are wrong if they decide to make a break. I don't think that's always accurate. The truth is that politics does divide us, and when someone is radicalized to the point at which there's disrespect, it's not stupid to terminate those relationships.

If you leave and/or breakup the band because of politics then it wasn't Music Related. They were not politicians, they were musicians first and had a original band with the efforts to make original music. The breakup was about political differences. Political differences should not be included with levels of respect. Who they vote for at the poles should not be included with music production, writing, rehearsals, etc. We can't have bands with only democrats in one band and republicans in another. You are playing and writing music, work it out. This hurting my feelings has got to stop.

I spent part of yesterday in a hot basement with a start up band. At one point one of the fellows mentioned a current political figure (not Lincoln or Churchill) in passing, and admittedly I didn't catch all of it. Why? In a group of strangers having a good time and not playing protest songs, 2 hours into it... why is that on the tip of your lips/top of mind?

I've played with people who I know have different political views from mine. No worries there. It doesn't bother me until they start making statements that are insulting to people who don't think the way they do.

I worked briefly with a band as a backup singer, and their bass player was a horrible bassist but also couldn't keep from talking about how much he hated "the other side" the whole time we were at his house rehearsing. He's setting up a mic stand for me and saying, "gee, I hope you're not a ____" and then making scathing remarks about ____, which I happen to be. Not only did I want to bean him with that mic stand but I also wanted to grab that bass from him and show him how it's properly done.

There's, like, zero reason I would want to hang around with people like that. My other friend I'll hang with all day long, because he doesn't act like that.

I am generally of the mind that music that goes out of its way to be political suffers in quality as a result.
