I believe I have some of his parts tabbed/notated out quite accurately in Guitar Pro 6, if you want the PDF or GP6 files. It took some serious time to sit there and listen to what he was playing, but worth it, he has some cool lines.

I agree Mojo-Man. I have an old album from West, Bruce, and Laing and it is pretty good. Essentially, Jack replaced Felix in Mountain, partly due to Felix's heroin addiction. The song, "Theme From An Imaginary Western" was written by Jack, recorded on a solo album of his that was produced by Felix, and then covered by Mountain.

On 8/22/1974 I saw Mountain. Got to the show in the afternoon, befriended a roadie, so he let me get on stage and look at Felix's rig. On this show he had 8 Sunn 2x15 cabinets, 1 Concert bass amp and 3 Sunn slave amps driving the cabinets. All the controls were on 10 except the Bass control, it was on zero. Of course with the Gibson bass and at that volume, he had plenty of low end. Plus those speakers looked like there were going to fly out of those cabinets. The roadie told me that they had to recone the speakers after every tour. It was awesome to see and hear Felix up close, man, what a sound.

Any booster/effects?

Was distortion derived from just cranking his amps?

I met Felix after a Mountain show in 71 ( Atlanta). As a bass player I told him I played bass and owned a Kustom 200 and eagerly asked him what fuzz box he used. He said “ I don’t use a fuzz; it’s supercharged amps! Guess he figured I was too green to tell one brand from another

He was very nice and cordial as well as patient with me. We had lost Hendrix so ironically I asked him to look after Leslie. He assured me he would. Then the girls flocked in and I knew my time of talking shop was done...

I’ll always remember his handshake across the back of the limo and our brief conversation

Afterward I went home and cranked my Kustom 200. Elephant phart tone just like Pappalardi !

Only useful when playing Cream or Mountain tunes!

LOL! I've always wondered how he got the producer gig for Disraeli Gears. Did he own a studio?

necro reply... you probably know by now that he frequented major label offices in hopes of getting a bigger Producer's position and Ertegun, anxious to get Cream's limited studio time with Tom Dowd rolling, had seen him before and asked 'who the hell are you?' and Felix convinced him. he created his own lucky break.
