I heard he was playing with Coffin, whos other bassist is pretty good too Jeff Sipe is just plain sick, one of my favorites!

Jeff has this Dolphy thing that is unreal!!! Great phrasing, some of the freshest and tightest solos out there.

Felix was very good in it, but it was nearly 3 years ago when I saw him with Coffin.

I saw the Flectones a few times before Jeff Coffin joined, and I've seen them three time since.....they where great before, but I really dug what he brought to the band, he raised their very high bar!IMHO I have one of Jeff's solo albums, I would really dig seeing his own show!

OK, I'm going to take the cheap shot:

He's so good that a thread about him has been hjacked by props for a sax player...



I really sympathize for the guy because I think that he could use about two years of constant gigging to find out what he wants to do with the instrument. The sheer horror of being chained to the Jaco legacy would be enough to make me take up another instrument. I felt the same way about Eric Mingus, who seemed to be able to get past it but I haven't heard anything about him in a few years.

Being the son of Jaco Pastorius as a bassist is a poisened gift, people will always say "oh, he's good, but not as good as his father" no matter how great he is. On the other hand, his name will open a lot of doors, so ... :bruce:

... I think he's making a mistake in that he uses JBs, plays a lot of his dad's music, and isn't even close. Whereas Matt Garrison really plays a completely different thing and has made a name for himself.

Perfect point of view! The most important thing for everyone expressing himself in music is to find his own voice and it's really a big mistake to walk in those footsteps!

I think Felix is a great player with alot of potential..And im also sure that he could snag an endorsement from just about any bass maker he chooses. I agree that there are plenty of monster players out there that noone knows about BUT, I've heard snippit's and seen a few video's of him just goofing off and playing some freestyle, and the guy definately has a chance to do something with his own stuff as well as honor his dad by playing his composition's. So.. yea, he's got some big shoes to fill, gotta be hard. I give him all the props in the world.
