Women bass players seem to play different than men and got a grove that I dig. Yes I would gig with them.

Actually, I think the tides have changed. Around here, I see more and more ads looking specifically for female bassists. Like Mellowin' said... Sexy as hell.

Never really thought about it. Over the years I'd say at least half if not two-thirds of the bands I've been in have been mixed gender and I've been in bands with mixed sexual preference and in multiracial bands. It's just not something I've ever thought about. Why would I not play with women? Or anyone else that's not male, hetero, or white?
There are a couple of bands that run in the same circles as my band. These lady's rock. Janis Wallen from The Family Groove Company is a sick bassist. Super nice and friendly as well. I realize from a physical stand point girls are different than guys, but whats the real difference. If they rock they rock.
Yes, I think so, or some other reason. In fact, the OP's profile was female a few days ago.
I don't know how you can "generally' classify anyone, especially by gender. either a bassist is good or they are not -- that's how I classify them. if she is a HOT woman and plays bass well, I think it's very cool and nice to watch.
That woman who fills in for "Boston" now comes to mind. Kimberly Dahme. Easy on the eyes and plays well.
But do I think it's hot for female to play bass merely because she's a female? no. But in general attractive musicians who can play are better to have in a band than unattractive ones who can play -- men or women. It's just rare to see a woman in a band who isn't only the singer. It tends to stand out. A good friend of mine up here is a drummer, very attractive (especially against the goblins in her band), and yeah she gets scads of attention because of it.
